Signature??? on the bottom of you posts.

Recommended Posts

From the Brewerfan.net Message Board FAQ:

How do I add a signature?

- click on "My Control Center"

- click on "Account Preferences"

- check the "Custom Signature" checkbox

- type your signature in the text box under the checkbox

- click "Save Changes" at the bottom of the screen

What am I allowed to have in my signature?

Ideally, signatures should not be longer than your posts, nor should they distract from the content of your post. A good rule of thumb is that if your signature is longer than 3 lines (including paragraph breaks), it may be distracting. It also is easier on the eyes if your signature is written in italics, separated by a dashed line or a hard return (

) so it is easy to distinguish where your post ends and your signature starts. Images should not be used in signatures. Language used to condescend or talk down to other users should not be used either. If you have a personal site or blog, feel free to advertise it in your signature, but try and keep it tasteful.

I don't know if you're attempting to post your signature in HTML, but note that HTML in sigs is only available to ezSupporters. All members have the ability to post signatures using ezCode.

Also note that Brewerfan.net asks that images not be included in signatures.

Brian, I would ask that perhaps you have some mention of signatures in your edict. It really gets annoying that some people have quotes or comments that are not set off by italics, underlining, quotes, a line of 40-hyphens, etc.

Some people have some signatures that contribute nothing to the site, and often are hard to differentiate from their posts. I can't think of who it is, but at least one person has an

"absolute statement", and everytime I read it I think of Star Wars (only the Sith think in absolutes). Yet there's no way of knowing that the signature is separate from their post.

I whole-heartedly agree.

a line of 40-hyphens

Instead of using the hypens, you can make that nice line by simply putting hr within a set of brackets and placing it before the text of your signature. It's easier and doesn't look tacky by going only halfway across.

EDIT: My reading comprehension skills apparently are bad, and Casey has already mentioned this. Either way, I endorse it.

The stuff about sigs is in the FAQ. Brian's letter is more of an addendum to the FAQ, addressing issues that have been concerning staff and moderators. It would make sense at some point to combine the two documents.
