Article: Brewers Minor League Link Report (6/4): An Organizational Sweep! (under the rug, that is)

Brewer Fanatic Staff

With the recent misery of the big-league club, particularly on offense, Brewers fans turn to the farm this AM for solace and inspiration. Alas, while there's plenty of talent at the affiliate levels, in terms of wins and losses Saturday, it was a whitewash. Let's see how it came about, as there was variety in the pain.

Transactions:

Congratulations to Kent Hasler , who was - wait for it - yet another undrafted independent league signing by the Crew. Just another reason why we make sure to detail and learn as much as we can about each and every Crew signing. As recent days have proven, no signing is insignificant. Or better put, every signing is of potential significance.

As for the two players let go, I detailed their brief professional journeys here. At that same link, an update is provided on the large January 2022 international signing class - at the moment, it does not appear any player from that group is targeted directly for Maryvale. We'll know more when the complex rookie leagues begin play in Arizona and the Dominican on Monday.

OK, in addition to reviewing Saturday's game action below, you will definitely want to check out the featured article on our home page from my Link Report teammate Daniel -- in fact go there now, and then return:

Minor League Players of the Month (May 2022): Carlos F. Rodriguez, Abraham Almonte, Cam Robinson

See how close your favorites came to notching those top spots!

Nashville Pre-Game Media Notes
Final: Durham (Rays) 5, Nashville 0
Box Score / Game Log

Via the Sounds' site, game details, and we encourage readers to review each of the affiliate write-ups as part of their Link Report routine:

Sounds Blanked by Durham - Nashville Gets Shut Out for First Time This Season

Bright spots? Well, RH reliever Connor Sadzeck and his 1.56 ERA are celebrating a new baby, as his absence between May 21st and May 29th was for paternity leave. He tossed a scoreless inning here - Connor, not the baby...

Bullpen mate Hasler (see transaction section above) made his AAA debut, allowing two hits and a run in his lone inning of work.

You'll see some bloated K totals in the box score, and unfortunately it was not within the pitching side of the Sounds ledger. You've been warned.

This is how SO CLOSE the Sounds came to not getting shutout, runner on second base, and then:

I've been meaning to make note of this. Is it just me or do the Brewers year-in and year-out make some of the least impactful 40-man roster additions each November in order to protect players from Rule 5 plucking. I went back to 2017:

2017:

Freddy Peralta (credit deserved!), Jacob Nottingham, Mauricio Dubon, Marcos Diplan

2018: Trey Supak, Troy Stokes, Jr.

2019: Corey Ray, Mark Mathias, J.P. Feyereisen (bonus points for future Adames trade)

2020: Mario Feliciano, Alec Bettinger, Dylan File

2021: None

So a lot is hinging on Feliciano in the coming years, otherwise if you had perceived a talent gap in the system over the past half-decade, there's a bit of insight into that.

Biloxi Pre-Game Media Notes via the Shuckers' Virtual Press Box

Final:  Pensacola (Marlins) 8, Biloxi 7

Via the Shuckers' site, game details, please review:

Shuckers Stunned By Wahoos Four-Run Ninth - Dillard and Coca Each Drive In Three Runs

Depleted, tired, ineffective - it just seems that the Biloxi staff is not in sync and we all wish we knew where the 2021 version of RH reliever

Taylor Floyd is. Floyd was mentioned prominently this past offseason by Brewers beat writers with the Journal, The Athletic, etc. He was primed for a major takeoff this season, but after an early unexplained absence, it's been a major struggle.

Yes, Joey Wiemer was absent again. With Monday's off day, he'll likely be off again Sunday. Speaking of those big league beat writers, perhaps someone gets in Tom Flanagan's ear (please) and gets a definitive response on what we believe to be a thumb issue. No Ryan Braun flashbacks, please. Well, Braun flashbacks are fine, just the very productive healthy ones.

Sincere note: Knowing the top-notch quality of the Crew's beat staff, they have likely already begun that Wiemer inquiry in preparation for any upcoming feature stories they have on the Crew's system. Sorry, as I shouldn't be playing editor.

The Shuckers once again grabbed their carving knife in order to splice offensive highlights from the Pensacola feed --

Rattlers Drop 5-2 Decision to Peoria - Rattlers fall two games behind Cedar Rapids in playoff chase

Nice work by

Max Lazar, too bad his day was over after just 56 pitches. Ten appearances, but just five starts, and not really "max" stretched out in any of them, pun intended.

Only one walk one HBP from the top three in the order, but how much fun was seeing that Arbert Cipion

blast in just his second game as a Rattler? I was blown away by this mini-thread

Chourio Hits RBI Triple and Perez Homers in 8-2 Loss - The Mudcats fell to 1.5 games back of first as the division leading Hillcats earned a series clinching victory

The internet has basically (and justifiably) become a home for Jackson Chourio content and nothing else. Oh yeah, remember "the other guy"?

By the way, someone please help me find the amazing recent tweet meme where the infamous guy walking with girlfriend (Perez) turns around to admire new girl (Chourio). Add it to the comments, thanks!

Have a nice Sunday, all!
