This will be just the 29th time in MLB history that two starting pitchers are making dueling major league debuts in the same game. The most recent was earlier this season (Oakland's Adam Oller vs. TB's Tommy Romero on April 12). It’s the first time the Brewers have been involved in such a game in franchise history.

Here are some other notable matchups that involved both starting pitchers making their MLB debuts:

- Jacob deGrom (NYM) vs. Chase Whitley (NYY) on 5/15/14

- Rick Porcello (DET) vs. Ricky Romero (TOR) on 4/9/09

- Bob Forsch (STL) vs. Tom Carroll (CIN) on 7/7/74

- JR Richard (HOU) vs. Jim Willoughby (SF) on 9/5/71

- Denny McLain (DET) vs. Fritz Ackley (CHW) on 9/21/63

- Gaylord Perry (SF) vs. Sammy Ellis (CIN) on 4/14/1962

Doubleheaders are back to full 9 inning games, correct? No more 7 inning doubleheaders?

Correct. Nine innings this year.

All games part of doubleheaders in 2022 are scheduled as nine-inning games, following the implementation of seven-inning doubleheaders as part of health and safety protocols in 2020 and 2021.’

I love it when a big prospect comes up.  I cant wait for this one.  Im preparing myself to either declare him a non prospect or delusionaly pencil him into Burnes spot in the rotation depending on how the first few innings go.  Seriously though, after Small, who do you think is next SP prospect to make it to the Brewers?

I'd say Antoine Kelly is the next big prospect.  Castaneda is also pitching well but not sure I would call him a "big" prospect.  Both are more likely to be relievers though.  With the draft the last few years focusing on hitting, we dont have a lot of SP prospects in the minors.

That was kind of my thinking.  The have done a tremendous job of developing starting pitching.  But, after Small there feels like a big gap to the next one.

Are we calling this roster move the SmallUp?

As I said in the call up thread it's the one call that's small.

Remember what Yoda said:

Wind is blowing out according to Levering……..difficult conditions for a major league debut.

If it's anything like it is here, the wind is REALLY blowing out to left.

Could be a real HR derby.

It's too bad that timing and other circumstances have Small and Ashby pitching the two games. If Small runs into early problems (hopefully nothing like Ashby's first start against the Cubs), you hate to see the bullpen drained in the first game and then have to follow up with another lefty with the wind blowing out.

Looks like a day where someone may have to take one for the team and accept the blow to the ERA.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.
