Former college teammates at Mississippi State face off tonight in Woodruff and Hudson. Ironically among active Brewers hitters the player with the most career hits against Dakota Hudson is…. Brandon Woodruff (3-for-3 with a double).

Look at those youngins (2014)…

Not just “at Night” anymore.

DH is optional?

From the stats above, it looks to me like Woody should be in the batting lineup. I think that's what Stalton was hinting at too.

Indeed I was but in all seriousness, the last thing we need is another injured pitcher from batting.

I wanna see someone actually do that... Do the Angels DH Otani?

Ohtani DHs on the days he pitches & they changed the rule so he can stay in the game at DH when he’s done pitching.

Looks like his seasonal splits so far are 36 DH only, 8 P/DH & 2 days off where Trout DHed.

Cutrently at 121 wRC+ in 195 PAs and 92 ERA- | 61 FIP- in 44 IP which is good for about 1.5 to 2.0 WAR so far depending on which varieties one prefers.

Woodruff hasn’t hit that much since his famous HR off Kershaw.

I vote for keeping pitchers out of the batters box and off the bases. I’ll take my chances with McCutchen or Hiura.

What the Brewers really need from Woodruff is 6 or more innings to give the bullpen a little break. Hader had to work pretty hard last night and I would guess Williams could use another day after 3 straight stressful appearances against the Padres.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yeah.... Woody went 6 for 52 with 28 strikeouts last year.  I'd just as soon have someone who can hit, hit. The upside of a guy like Woodruff taking a few hacks is definitely outweighed by the risk of getting a Woodruff or Burnes hurt running the bases or tweaking a quad or something swinging a bat.  I'm perfectly ok with things how they are now and 100% happy that the possibility of our pitchers hitting the DL because they jammed a shoulder diving into a base or something like that is now (hopefully) 0%

Nice thing about last night’s win is that the pitching matchups are in our favor for the rest of the series, so assuming we hit some and the bullpen isn’t too worn out, it’s shaping up to be a pretty good holiday weekend.

Yeah I don't think Craig is gonna put Woody in the lineup based on a 3 ab sample size, especially when he probably hasn't picked up a bat in like a year.

Is Burnes definitely scheduled for Sunday? The MLB app has the Brewers as TBD for that game. Are they thinking about using someone else Sunday and having Burnes go on his 6th day in one of the games of the Monday twin bill?

I’m not sure the Brewers have a clear advantage tonight as Hudson has been pretty solid and Woodruff has not really hit his stride yet.

Even if Burnes goes Sunday that’s an ace vs ace matchup that is basically a toss up.

Liberatore tomorrow is a lefty, which by itself makes him a challenge. It might help if Adames could be back by then.

I don't think there's much question. Woody and Burnes are two of the best in the game, with Burnes being the reigning NL Cy Young winner and the odds-on favorite to repeat this year. While Woody might not have hit his stride yet, his last appearance was one of his best of the year and the one before that he only gave up one earned run. And Hudson, tonight's starter, despite his current 3.60 ERA, has one of the worst K/BB rates in baseball and a 5.43 xERA.

Also, Rosiak tweeted that Burnes will be pitching on Sunday.

Wonder if it's Adames....

Is it the end of the week yet?

Counsell said on Tuesday after Adames took batting practice and grounders that Adames wouldn’t be added to the roster “before the end of this week”.

I guess it depends on your definition of the end of the week. But that was the only potential roster move I could think of, barring a COVID outbreak or an unexpected injury. Plus, there were tweets about how he was really testing his ankle pre-game yesterday.

That was a rhetorical comment, not something I expected you or anyone to be able to answer.

Adames is not in tonight’s lineup.

B-R currently has the Cardinals with a .9% higher odds of making the post-season than the Brewers.  Odd.

I haven’t really looked at their odds, but I glanced at their methodology and it says that it creates a value for each team based on its last 100 games, including going back to the previous season.

As a simple explanation, it looks like the Cardinals are getting a big bump from their closing surge last year.
