One year ago today (5/24/2021) Blake Snell made his only career start against the Milwaukee Brewers. He was pulled in the 4th inning of what ended up being a 5-3 Brewers victory (Box Score Link). Today is just Snell’s second start since coming off the IL. In his previous start against the Phillies he lasted 3.2 IP and 84 total pitches while giving up 3 hits, 3 walks, and 3 earned runs.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I live in Pacific Time and I didn't even make it to the end of the game last night. Turned it off after we left the bases loaded in the 10th.

It was a good decision. I stayed up in Central Time, and now I'm tired and pissed.

Reminder that tonight’s game is available nationally on TBS with Brian Anderson on the call, but only for those outside of the Brewers blackout region. The game is also being broadcast on Bally Sports Wisconsin as usual.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Ethan Small starting in AAA tonight after having been scratched from his last start with a non-COVID illness. Interesting in that it would set him up perfectly to make his major league debut during our doubleheader in Chicago next Monday, when we will need an additional starter.

Also wonder if we will see a position player coming over from AAA today as a result of the Renfroe injury, seeing as it leaves us dangerously thin in the outfield. Dahl? Davis? Mathias? Turang?

I'm here to say: Ethan 'should', if he is called up, assume Ashby's bullpen role.  He'd be fantastic as a bullpen piece that can work a few innings with his crippling 77-79 change-up.

In other news, can we casually talk about Darrien Miller allowing his 43rd stolen base on his young season. 43. He is literally throwing out less than 10% of base runners now. What does that mean for Darrien as we face an impending automatic strikezone?

CYCLE ALERT: Hedbert Perez just jacked his fourth home run on the season to make it an 8-7 ball game here (Kannapolis leads). Hedbert is 3 of 3 on the day and is missing a triple to complete the cycle. Let's go, Hedbert!

I'd be all for that. And I noticed no walks to go with his 6 innings of one run ball tonight. Great to see! Excited about what he can potentially bring to the ballclub.

The Brewers are going to need a good, long start from Burnes and/or a lot of runs (not exactly that lineup for that) to have a chance to win this one. With Hader out and the number of pitches thrown out of the bullpen last night the late inning options aren’t going to be great.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I know Snell hasn’t been very good this year so far, but Burnes will have little to no margin for error tonight. Between the injuries and the fact that we’re facing a lefty, we’ll be lucky to score more than a couple runs if we’re lucky.

Ten day IL for Renfroe. Mathias added. It keeps the L-R makeup of the roster the same; still, I'd love to be a fly on the wall of David Dahls' locker right now.

I see  Keston is playing against a LHP again. CC just won't learn, will he?

To be fair, he doesn't have too many options right now with our injuries. And Keston has been a hotish hitter as of late.
