Don't want to read a whole lot into this, but I see this comment & remember how Adames felt ready to play a few days ago. It plays into Counsells' obvious inclination to err on the side of caution....and then some.....w/regards to coming back from injuries, and I wonder if it ticks some players off. I don't even know if I want to be critical, as playing the "long game" has obviously worked well over the past few years. I just find Renfroe's quote rather interesting.

I don’t think it is Counsell’s call with players coming back from injury.

I think in a 162 game season being cautious……especially early in the season is smart policy.

Players sometimes need to be saved from themselves.

Woodruff said he fought to,stay in after hurting his ankle……then after the game admitted it was the right decision to pull him since he could have aggravated the injury further if he had stayed in.

This is just an uneducated suspicion, but I wonder if there are contract incentives for games played or plate appearances (or innings/starts/appearances for pitchers) or possibly more production-based metrics that make a player more anxious to get back on the field.

It’s not encouraging that Renfroe says this injury feels “more substantial” than his hamstring injury.

My guess now is that we won’t be seeing Renfroe until after the All Star break.

Because he won’t be starting on field activities until after this road trip he wouldn’t be ready for games for at least a week. At that point it might just make sense to give him more time and take a few ABs in the minors and be ready to play after the break.
