Article: Brewers Minor League Link Report (4/6): About that undefeated AAA season...

Brewer Fanatic Staff

The Brewers made news that impacted their minor league rosters on Wednesday. The Sounds continued to have the game spotlight to themselves, although the Shuckers played an exhibition (highlights forthcoming!), the Timber Rattlers were busy in an introductory way, and oh, there's a change in the Milwaukee Media Guide that will disappoint prospect followers.

Transactions:

Catcher Brett Sullivan and OF Korry Howell sent to San Diego's system in the Victor Caratini acquisition

Infielder Hayden Cantrelle and RHP Alexis Ramirez head to Miami for additional catching depth in Alex Jackson

LHP Clayton Andrews placed on Nashville's 7-day injured list (injury not revealed)

Brian Navarreto transferred from ACL Brewers Blue roster to Nashville (paper move, as Navaretto was likely with the team since spring training camp broke and was needed after the Brett Sullivan departure)

RHP's Moises Gomez, Matt Hardy, and J.T. Hintzen were placed on the Nashville "Development List" - this could mean they are still in Maryvale or are on a taxi squad of sorts and are with the AAA club

Final: Durham (Rays) 9, Nashville 4

Box Score / Game Log

Via the Sounds' site, game details:

Singleton Homers Again but Sounds Fall to Bulls - Nashville First Baseman has Homered in Both Games of 2022

Among those making their 2022 debuts - 2B Mark Mathias (2-for-4), 3B Andruw Monasterio, and the entire starting outfield - LF Dustin Peterson, CF Jonathan Davis (on base three times)and RF Garrett Whitley (single, HBP). So all the Sounds but the newly-activated Navarreto have now seen action.

Except for the fifth pitcher of the night RHP Peter Strzelecki, no ERA's went unscathed. The middle relief crew didn't have each others' backs as all three runners inherited scored.

Very good video highlight report via WXXV on Biloxi's exhibition game against William Carey University, and the NAIA school more than held their own against the pros.

Jeff Haeger of WXXV does a nice job on the Shuckers beat, as evidenced in his video report earlier in the day:

It was a "Get To Know You" day in Appleton, and our Kyle Lobner was all over it:

I know which section of the Media Guide I normally flock to each year, and that's the Minor League pages, and we're left with disappointment this year.

The Brewers have scrubbed the injury histories from each player write-up. Each spring, we would collect all the notations from the guide, and those updates would fill in the gaps as to why players missed time during the prior season, or would even tell us what surgeries they may have had in the just-ended offseason.

Now, we are left to wonder when players are missing in action.

We had wondered each year (wondered out loud, perhaps we shouldn't have done that), as to why the Brewers (thankfully for us at the time) would be so up-front with surgery/injury details, listing specific dates and surgeons. Why be so tight-lipped during the season - unless an injury is clearly an on-field incident with video and such, you'll never see the organization or the affiliate announcers acknowledge the specifics of an injury.

Heck, this is how we learned of LHP Antoine Kelly's Thoracic Outlet Surgery in November of 2020.

We get it - HIPPA and all, but it leaves us guessing moving forward.

One more night in the spotlight, Nashville, as RHP and 40-man roster member Dylan File toes the rubber:

Jon Singleton with a double and a homer (2 in 2 games). He's quite the story, for sure.

Absolutely, and the Sounds' game summary linked above discusses that and more, keep clicking on those game summary links! ?

  • Jon Singleton hit his second home run in as many games to start the season. He is the first Sounds player since Prince Fielder to homer in the team’s first two games of the year. Fielder accomplished the feat on April 7 and 8, 2005 vs. New Orleans.

WAAAYYYYY too early for Rowdy to be looking over his shoulder obviously, but he should probably be checking out the Nashville box scores every once in a while. It seems like forever ago that Singleton was a Top 10 MLB prospect and signed a huge and unheard of at the time long-term deal with the Astros, but he got those for a reason. Dude has always had monster power. He tore the cover off the ball in the Mexican League last year. I have no expectations whatsoever, but he'll be a fun story to watch as the AAA season progresses.

Didn't play at all between 2018-2020 which included a 100 game suspension. He certainly has had the talent but has a lot to prove and needs to makes better decisions. Even though Marijuana isn't real serious he knows the rules if he wants to stay in baseball. Glad he bought that gym during his downtime and stayed in shape.

I'm not sure I'll click on links to go to other sites. I like a one-stop shop... but the Singleton story is really interesting, and very public.  Hopefully he's in a good place right now.

Regarding the one-stop shop you prefer, I can respect that.

But we won't be re-inventing the wheel, trying to write game summaries off of box scores from games we could not have possibly watched live in their entirety (at least not when all four affiliates are playing), when the folks who are literally right there are putting together detailed reports.

Hopefully when the Timber Rattler postgame home podcasts begin, and when we locate articles from local newspapers, or other sources that aren't fully embedded within the BrewerFanatic site cocoon/bubble, folks will feel free to click and launch a new tab, as the content we'll link to will always be worthwhile.
