It appeared the Brewers were originally lined up to face Snell/Darvish/Manaea in this series, but the Padres are inserting Nick Martinez back into the rotation after he was recently used out of the bullpen. Martinez has been mostly starting (6 starts) in his first season back in MLB since 2017 after a successful 4 year run in Japan’s NPB. Martinez has exceeded 80+ pitches in all of his starts and has twice thrown 102 pitches this season. So if Martinez is cruising along it’s likely he’ll last deep into the game.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

About as even as it gets in terms of pitching matchups, with maybe a slight advantage to Houser and the Brewers. Would be a nice one to get to set the tone for not only the rest of the series, but also the remainder of the roadtrip.

Seeing the Padres back in brown - I lived in SD for eight years - makes me incredibly happy every time I see it.

Brown should never work on a uniform, yet the Padres have managed that and more. Life is so good with the Brewers back with the ball and glove logo and the Padres in their brown pinstripes.

Indeed, on both counts. I firmly believe the Brewers have the best logo set in sports. The MB glove is iconic and they rounded out their offerings with that rad barley ball and cream city Wisconsin brick logo, all of which are top-notch. Truly excellent examples of design all around.

I would like to see Bernie Brewer and the San Diego Chicken have a run-the-bases-race before Game 1, have a boxing match before Game 2, and have a home run derby with wiffle balls before Game 3!

Taylor in the lineup again. Great to see, and makes me think CC and co. are just about done with Cain.

Meanwhile, if our pitchers can find a way to limit the damage from Machado, who has been one of the two best players in baseball this season alongside Trout, we will set ourselves up for a great series.

Super excited for Miguel Sanchez to get another shot with the Big Club. After his first scuffle of the season two weeks ago in Jacksonville, he answered the bell with absolute dominating performances versus the Reds’ Louisville Bats. Hopefully he gets some meaningful action and he rises to the occasion!

Agreed. He was even dominant with us for a stretch last year before the wheels kind of fell off a little bit. Hope he's learned a lot and ready to start out fast.

How can a serious contender have the corpse of Robinson Cano hitting in the six-hole. Bet Padres fans are counting the days till Tatis returns.

Well, we have a guy with a .450-ish OPS starting more than half the games in center so...

True. But at least Cain has his glove to fall back on so he hasn't been a negative in WAR. Cano doesn't, hence his -0.7 WAR.
