Sun. 5/15 - Peek In On The Farm while Brewers / Bucks Fill The Afternoon Hours

Brewer Fanatic Contributor

How about our Nashville Sounds taking the series between Divisional leaders in fairly convincing fashion? They improve to 24-11 (!!) on the season after the 11-6 victory today in Jacksonville. What a season through 35 games!

At what point does Wiemer crack the top 100? Sheesh!

He was already there to start this season, my friend. BUT, the question really is: How high will he go? He entered the season ranked 96 by MLB Pipeline. OPS now at 0.980 on the season with his 8th and 9th HR batting 0.302 with his 27th rbi on the day. Just an incredibly good start to his season all things considered.

Hats off to Jakob Brustoski. He struck out the side in the bottom half of the eighth inning. After a really really tough start to his Low-A career he has really made progress in the past couple weeks. I, for one, am proud of this young man for facing adversity and finding his resolve to improve and continue battling. Here's to better days ahead! His nemesis to date has really been hit batters and walks. Strikeouts are clearly on the table as he gets many. Over his past 5 2/3 ip he now has limited damage to 3 hit/2 bb/2 hb with 11 k's and 3 er. We can work with this.

Jheremy Vargas just missed the Mudcats 2nd Grand Slam of the afternoon by about 3 feet. He is out 3/4 up the wall at the wall in deep center. It's 12-6 Mudcats onto the bottom of the ninth inning.

As one coach in the organization put it to me, “If he wakes up tomorrow and can throw strikes consistently, you could put him in the Milwaukee pen right now.” That is high praise for the very raw stuff that Brustoski possesses. That faith will also allow Jakob an extended chance to find his control.  Correct me if I’m wrong, but 20 of his 28 outs are Ks… whew

He's at least getting closer (1.06 WHIP so far in May). The chances of salvaging his season stats are slim but if he can keep improving it won't matter.

Wonder if Shane Smith is close to returning. He seemed to have a similar profile when the two were signed as UDFA.

Or get promoted to AAA....I would think after the draft is a possibility if he keeps this up.

Heck, Wiemer might find himself in Milwaukee before the end of the year if he keeps this up, A remote possibility, but still...

Could be any time. It would still leave Mitchell, Frelick, and Lutz in Biloxi.

I think the earliest would be after the draft.  I believe the Brewers would want Wiemer to play at least half of the season in AA before going to AAA.  The jump from AA to AAA isn’t all that big of a jump either.  I wouldn’t be surprised if it were later in the year for a promotion for Wiemer to AAA.

Been watching the organizational box scores regularly. Interesting how they are trying to build versatility moving Wilson, Valerio & Turang around the diamond. Today they did something cool with Frelick/Wiemer.......they played CF-RF, then flip flopped.

Tyler Black seems to be flying under the radar a bit at Wisconsin. Well over .300 & driving in runs.

there's no reason to delay, unless they don't think he's ready. Nashville has some OF they could jettison, and there will still be 4 decent OF in Biloxi.

Sorry if this should be posted in another thread on this site (feel free to move it, if it should), but can someone tell me more about both Stivan Cruz and Brandon Knarr.  I just don't know enough about either of these guys?  Are they both legit prospects to get excited about?  "Stuff" guys are more finesse?

Welcome aboard @Jim French Stepstool

Tyler Black was red hot to start the season. He then had a brief stint on the shelf, so to speak, with a minor injury. But, clearly, he's adjusted quite fine since Frelick's promotion. Of the many players to follow, the other player to really keep an eye on in the early going, and one of the true pleasant surprises of 2022, is Tristan Peters. He's been unbelievably steady and consistent offensively and defensively. Wisconsin is just a fun group to watch right now. Joe Gray Jr. and Zavi Warren have really stepped it up these past couple of weeks. Wes Clarke always seems to step up in crucial moments. Ernesto Martinez is back from injury. Darrien Miller continues to shine. Carlos Rodriguez has played improved offensive baseball lately. It should also be pointed out: these players clearly love playing for manager Joe Ayrault. Watching his mic'd up YouTube clips it's easy to see why. He's extremely supportive and relates well to his players.

It is kind of absurd the amount of production the system has gotten from the second base spot, with Mathias, Valerio, Black and Raabe.

Let’s just go there again:

I LOVE players experiencing success. What a season for Tyler.
