Wisconsin goes for a 7th straight win and 4th in-a-row in Quad Cities, as RHP Max Lazar (3.31 ERA, 1.53 WHIP, 5.5 K/9 in 16 1/3 innings) gets the starting honors tonight (with LHP Russell Smith as back-up innings eater? - we'll know soon enough). 2B Tyler Black went 2-for-4 yesterday with 4 RBIs to raise his average to .302 and OPS to .886 (67 plate appearances).

Note: SS Ethan Murray was scratched from the original lineup, so that's a possible injury worth watching. In addition, 21-year old RHP Miguel Guerrero (who was throwing 53 pitches a game) hasn't pitched since leaving a game early on May 5th:

The Sounds will try to take a commanding 3-1 series lead in Jacksonville, with RHP Dylan File aiming to replicate his last start (5 innings, 0 runs, 3 hits). Manager Rick Sweet welcomes DH/OF Abraham Almonte back from injury. Yesterday's 2-homer, 7-RBI man Keston Hiura can be found in left field today:

The Mudcats need a win in Fayetteville to avoid falling to below .500 on the season, as RHP Miguel Segura (5.21 ERA, 1.79 WHIP, 6.2 K/9 in 19 innings) gets the start. Our young squad is 2nd in the 12-team Carolina League in doubles (52), but 2nd-last in home runs (16) through 30 games:

The AA Biloxi Shuckers are now 1-9 in the month of May, handing the ball to 29-year old LHP Andy Otero (2.86 ERA, 1.48 WHIP, 9.2 K/9 in 28 1/3 innings) to lead them to victory tonight. 2B Felix Valerio has a 6-game hitting streak and hit his 4th home run yesterday:

1 - Sal Frelick - LF
2 - Garrett Mitchell - CF
3 - Joey Wiemer - RF
4 - Felix Valerio - 2B
5 - Thomas Dillard - 1B
6 - Jakson Reetz - C
7 - Noah Campbell - DH

Tyler Black has hit his 2nd home run of the season, cutting the Wisconsin deficit to 2-1 in the 3rd inning after Max Lazar had given up a 2nd inning solo shot.

Dylan File ran into 4th inning difficulty (3 singles and a walk with nobody out), but limited the damage to one run by striking out three consecutive Jumbo Shrimp. Sounds trail 4-1.

Biloxi loaded the bases with 2 outs in the first inning, but wasn't able to score. Still down 2-0.

Carolina's in a rain delay, leading 1-0 in the bottom of the 2nd inning, though the Woodpeckers have 2-on with nobody out.

Timber Rattler Manager Joe Ayrault has been ejected in the 3rd inning in Quad Cities. I'm guessing he did not enjoy the strike zone which Max Lazar has been forced to work with.

Unfortunately, another 2-run blast has pushed the River Bandits' lead to 4-1.

Wes Clarke waited for his pitch and smacked it over the wall in center field (his 3rd of the year), scoring Darrien Miller (who's singled both times up). Wisconsin's only down 4-3.

Pete Strzelecki came in for Dylan File in the 6th inning and just gave up a 3-run jack to 25-year old IF Charles LeBlanc (his 7th of the year; 1.079 OPS). Nashville trails 7-2 and this one has officially gotten out of hand.

Tyler Gillies came in for Max Lazar to pitch the 4th inning, but gave up a 2-run homer to .149-hitting Cam Williams (his 7th of the year; yes, he's homered on 7 of his 11 hits through 74 at-bats). Wisconsin trails 6-3 entering the 5th inning.

Hey hey - Noah Campbell came through with a 2-run, 1-out single for the Shuckers after Felix Valerio had put the defense under serious pressure (infield hit, two stolen bases). A wild pitch then brought in another run. Biloxi has a 3-2 lead in the 3rd inning, still with runners on the corners and 2 outs.

The Sounds are not quite ready to pack it in. Alex Jackson doubled in David Dahl to cut it to 7-3 in the 7th inning.

Biloxi's Andy Otero has yet to rediscover his 2021 dominance, giving up 3 hits and 2 runs to Birmingham in the 4th inning. The Shuckers trail yet again, 4-3.

RHP Trevor Tietz comes for the Mudcats as the teams are ready to resume play after a rain delay. Miguel Segura was limited to 1 inning of work (30 pitches), plus two walks to open the 2nd inning before the delay.

Darrien Miller and Wes Clarke led off the Wisconsin half of the 6th inning with two more hits, later scoring on a wild pitch and Antonio Pinero single. The Rattlers have cut it to 6-5.

Trevor Tietz escaped the 2-on, nobody out jam in the 2nd inning. Mudcats lead 1-0, entering 3rd inning.

Jon Singleton doubled and Abraham Almonte walked with 2 outs in the 8th inning, but the Sounds weren't able to score. They're down 7-3.

Biloxi has 2 aboard to start the 5th inning, on a Thomas Dillard walk and Jakson Reetz infield single. They trail 4-3.

Carlos D. Rodriguez (who'd walked) scores on a ground out and it's tied 6-6 in Quad Cities in the 6th inning. Guerrero is staying in despite a bumpy 5th inning (28 pitches, escaped bases loaded jam).

Cam Devanney singles to knock in Dillard, knotting it up for Biloxi against Birmingham, 4-4.

The Woodpeckers have tied up the Mudcats 1-1 in the 3rd inning on two hits and a sacrifice fly off Mr. Tietz.

Somewhat unsurprisingly (I think) after his 9-day layoff, Mr. Guerrero ran into further trouble in the 6th inning in Quad Cities, allowing the first 4 hitters to reach base (3 singles, 1 HBP). Wisconsin trails 7-6 as RHP Kent Hasler comes in with the bases still loaded and nobody out.

Nashville has loaded the bases with 1 out in the 9th inning, down 7-3. Brice Turang is up to bat.

Unfortunately, Mr. Turang couldn't be the hero on this day, instead lining into a 6-5 double play to end the contest. He ended with a very rare (for him) 0-for-5 day.

Hurricane Kent Hasler entered and struck out all 3 straight River Bandits he faced, but a balk call allowed one of the inherited runners to score. Maybe Manager Ayrault would have been tossed at this point, if not for the fact that he was ejected back in the 3rd inning. Wisconsin trails 8-6 going into the 7th inning.

Tristan Peters, Darrien Miller and Wes Clarke start off the Timber Rattler 7th inning with three singles, cutting the lead back to 8-7. Miller's 4-4 and likely to bat again in the 9th inning.

Uh oh in Biloxi, as Garrett Mitchell exited the game in the 6th inning. Let's hope he's okay. Nick Kahle and Joey Wiemer opened the bottom half of the inning with 2 walks. Still 4-4.

Thomas Dillard drives in 2 runs with a single and Jakson Reetz followed with a first pitch blast to right field, his 5th home run of 2022. And just like that, Biloxi leads 8-4 in the 6th inning!
