With Josh Maurer on the radio call you might be better off with the random YouTube broadcast crew.

Spot on! Levering and Maurer are simply awful announcers. For example, last night they were literally trying to name Vanilla Ice songs. I don't think anyone finds their references to be witty or their inside jokes about advertising plugs and food to be amusing.

Maybe I'm expecting too much, but hey should at least talk about baseball when they have to fill in dead air or cover boring games. The Reds TV announcers are homers and were better than these two clowns last night.

Well, if Houser can keep this at four runs for a while, I think we'll have a chance. Facing a guy with an ERA over 8 and playing in a bandbox of a ballpark.

Didn't they kind of neutralize ball park effects or at least are trying to with the new humidors?  I haven't fully been following the baseball's baseball discussion going on, so correct me if I'm wrong.

Come on, everybody hates on the new guy in year 1.  He's not that bad.

Well the bar was set pretty low with Grindle.

Levering is alright but being the #2 guy to Uecker has typically been a stepping stone to the #1 gig with another team: Pat Hughes (ChC), Jim Powell (ATL), Corey Provus (MIN), Joe Block (PITT). I don't see Grindle or Maurer distinguishing themselves when discussing Saturday Morning Cartoons from the mid '90s.

I haven't had the telecast on yet so I don't know bad the defense has been but the highlights of the run scoring hits suggest that Houser isn't exactly on top of his game either.

Another short start to further tax the bullpen that has been cuffed around pretty badly the last few days.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I listen to a LOT of baseball on the radio.  I've always loved baseball on the radio, ever since I listened to the old AAA San Diego Padres  of the Pacific Coast League.   So I hear many announcers for many different teams.  Lane, Jeff, and even newby Josh are pretty good and better than many.  Ueker is, of course, his own special thing.  Sometimes it's better to hear silly non-baseball talk, like when your team is getting hammered than to hear the same old inane baseball platitudes by guys who think they are experts because they have a microphone.  That said, I like a lot more radio announcers than I dislike.    And given that the Crew is playing like U-12 today and getting bombed, I may check out some of the other day games.  Blecchh.

That's typically not the case for me. I even liked Joe Block just fine when everyone was calling him boring. I've listened to the radio broadcast the past two games and for me Maurer just isn't a polished baseball radio voice to the caliber of what I'd expect for an MLB level broadcast. He seems to butcher a lot of common phrases/expressions, and his explanations of things that are unfolding is grating to my ears.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Thanks for that total non competitive start, Houser. Good thing your arbitration hearing was last week.

Houser hasn't been good, but the seven run deficit has definitely been a team effort today despite what ERA might say.
