I like the idea of having a weekend to bring back retired players so it will be nice to have Fielder, Lucroy and Braun there as well. Honoring the 82 team has gotten a little old but I do believe this is the first time back for Ted Simmons since being elected to the baseball hall of Fame.

Normally I'd agree about the '82 team, but this feels different. First its a even number anniversary but we are also just as much honoring the Brewers of the 2000's. With Braun retired the current team really identifies as the Stearns Era pitching and defense Brewers. So I think it feels different primarily because we are honoring a history now with multiple highlights in different eras and not just force feeding the 1 success while we all wish for more.

I love the 1982 team but, wow, it goes to show how pathetic this franchise has been that we continue to celebrate a World Series losing team 40 years later.

Better than the Mariners, who not only have never made a World Series, but who have also failed to even make the playoffs for the last twenty-plus years. The 1982 team is also one of the best and most memorable runner-up teams in history, with five future hall of famers and a home-run centric style that was ahead of its time. I do hope that we will be commemorating a World Series championship team sometime soon, though.

The personalities also played a large part in the love Brewer fans had for that group. You can't get much more "Milwaukee" than guys like Vuckovich, Thomas, Caldwell, Gantner et al. A former co-worker played in a rec league years later with Charlie Moore. Had nothing but good things to say about him. Throw in the local sports legend who took over as manager & led them to the series. I think that group will always be celebrated as if they won it all.

I mean, yes. There's so much angst with the Brewers that even if they faced the Twins in the World Series, I might cheer for the Brewers.

At least at that point, the Twins would have won a postseason game so that's no longer an issue.

But damn, I really want to see a Brewers championship. So much.

I don’t agree. I think this team would still be celebrated even if we had five other WS championships. It meant so much to people. And it wasn’t just 1982. That is what people often fail to remember. The team was pretty good for six years (1978-1983)….all playoff caliber teams in 2022. And it built up from good groups, to playoffs in 1981, to being up 3-1 in WS Game 7 in 1982. I include 1983 because of the afterglow and relative competitiveness of that group too.

However,if one of those pretend championships would have been between 1978-1981 or 1983, I don’t think 1982 would be celebrated, probably just the year the championship was actually won.  There were so many similar players that played several years on those teams from i1978-1983….. I see 1982 as the culmination of that whole group and feel.

Unmatched in team history for good feelings about a group (2007-2008 was close), that whole era should be remembered, especially for the 40th anniversary.  Remembering it every 5 to 10 years seems about right.

That's interesting and I don't think it's wrong.

But inversely, I lived in San Diego for a long time and they don't promote their 84 and 98 pennants nearly as much as Brewers fans do their 82 pennant.

I'm not saying it's wrong, damn the Brewers had SO MANY GOOD PLAYERS during that stretch and all of those players deserve recognition.

So maybe that's the difference. The Brewers had Yount and Molitor while the Padres only had Gwynn.

It is a good thing to celebrate the success of the 82 team but an entire weekend?  The Marlins just had a weekend like that for the 1997 WS winning team and it got to be a little much by Sunday (of course this isn't "my" team so perhaps Marlins fans loved it).  The best parts during those broadcasts for us was when they showed clips and interviews with CC.

I've been down on the "over-celebrating" of the '82 Brewers in the past (I found the 25th anniversary stuff in 2007 to be particularly annoying), but this time feels different. 40 years is a long time, and not to be grim, but a few of these folkss likely won't be around for the 50th. Let them have their celebration and let the fans who experienced it remember those good times.

Yeah, the Molitor statue would be fine with me. He kind of gave that up when he went to Toronto, though.

Well he never received an offer from the Brewers to return.  You can’t return to a team when they refuse to give you a contract.

Brewers offered him arbitration, but if I remember correctly, their initial offer might have been a pay cut from 3.1 million a year.

Dude batted .320, tenth in MVP voting in 92. My all-time favorite Brewer. I was so sad when he left.

They got rid of a ton of productive players after '92: Molitor, Bosio, Plesac, Dante Bichette, Scott Fletcher, Kevin Seitzer (only to reacquire), Darren Holmes, no wonder surprise when they took a faceplant in '93.
