The league average IP per game started is 5.0

The Brewers are at 5.3 IP per game started.

This is the new reality for MLB.  Not just the Brewers, but for everyone.

Can we stop with “league average” being the standard? It has little meaning for a team with World Series aspiration. Especially one built on their starting staff needing to be anything but average.

I will say one thing.  At least counsell knows how to get this forum jumping

that inning probably had more activity here than we’ve had the last three or four games combined

To be fair, that inning lasted 45 minutes. Lot of time to think.

Especially when this league has teams that are actively tanking or using this season as a higher version of the minor leagues.

This just in, folks, despite adding FIVE errors to their Southern League leading tally, the Shuckers managed to end their 7 game losing streak 7-6. Whew. Five. Errors. I would probably add: Biloxi is now 13-15 despite themselves.?

The Brewers are at 5.3 IP per game started

The Dodgers are at 5.3 IP per game started.  I wonder if the Dodgers have world series aspirations?

THe league leaders, the Padres, are at 5.6 IP per game started, so their starters average exactly one more out than Brewers starters, per start.

What starter routinely goes more than 6 innings nowadays? Maybe a Burnes/Scherzer type? That's it though.

I didn’t say MORE than 6 innings.

The Brewers have had several recent starts where the starter hasn’t even gotten to the 6th inning, much less finish it. For a team that is supposed to have one of the best rotations in MLB playing in a league with scoring down they should be able to get a few more “quality starts”.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

While Counsell surely has made questionable decisions in his tenure (what manager hasn't), I will always be hesitant to criticize the guy who's led us to a record four playoff appearances in a row, has us in first place this season, and who is widely considered to be one of the top managers in baseball. As far as the Adames thing specifically, the guy has been one of our best hitters this season and has just recently entered a cold streak. You don't make those kinds of rash decisions based off a few subpar games. Not that batting orders matter that much anyways...

I still stand by my original comment about CC's decisions, especially the way this game is ending.

But every Sabermatrician will tell you that the third time through a lineup facing the same pitcher every batter hits a grand slam home run.

Do you think the Brewers would need to equal the Dodger pitching in a series? Or would they need to be better to win it?

"Should be able to get more quality starts?" They're second in the majors in quality starts. And they also are among the league leaders in average innings per start. Your eyes be deceiving you...Our starting pitching has been good despite the early struggles of Woodruff. Even Peralta seems to be returning to normal.

My eyes are focusing more on this last round of starts, where Houser, Ashby, Woodruff, and Peralta all failed to finish 6 innings, and the first 3 didn’t even make it to into the 6th.

For pitchers who are touted as among the best in the league, Woodruff and Peralta aren’t covering a lot of innings.
