I'd say he did okay there. To his credit, he was probably our best pitcher in spring training and had great numbers to start the year in AAA.

There were 10 guys who made the bullpen ahead of him out of spring training and he's been pretty bad throughout his entire career in the big leagues.  I'm glad it worked, doesn't mean it's a great decision.

I think the use of trashcan was what sparked some responses,  perhaps he could have been called a less experienced pitcher

Ok, mop up guy.  It's not a good decision to use the mop up guy in a one run game in the 7th.  Use him in the 5th to cover some innings when the starter gets shelled.  It still might work though and I understand that.

You mean guys like Urena, who only made the team because he was out of options while Perdomo still had one? Perdomo is also not the same pitcher who posted those stats, which is why the Brewers were interested enough in him to sign him while he was still rehabbing from Tommy John surgery. Who did you want there? Suter? Against Acuna???

Urena was the last guy in the pen.  Now it's Perdomo or Millner.

But who else did you want there against the Braves right-handed heavy lineup? I don't think Milner or Suter are the solution to getting guys like Swanson and Acuna out.

Don't have to save 5 relievers for only when you have a lead.  Boxberger or Williams or Gott would be fine.  Also Suter does not have extreme R/L splits throughout his career and needs more innings.  That would've been an ok choice.

Boxberger and Gott are unavailable because they pitched the previous two days. If you use Williams and you lose anyways, then he's unavailable tomorrow when you have a small lead. Suter? Against Acuna? That's just asking for trouble.

They had Williams up and throwing in the pen.  Bring him in.

They had Williams up for if they'd tied or taken the lead. We already went through this with Hader in 2018-2019. You can't be using your lockdown relievers every single time the game is close otherwise they won't be available for when you really need them. Counsell played his cards right here, the Braves are just a good team.

And as we saw in previous years, if you try to save them for when you "really need them" you often end up not using them.

That's irrelevant to the decision making in the 7th and 8th inning.

Not really. It's a long season and you can't pitch your "A" guys every game

"And as we saw in previous years"? Really? A team that has gone to the playoffs four years in a row, with their bullpen being one of the major catalysts in each of those runs? I don't think so.

I am unhappy with Cain's defense.  Too bad Cutch got sick.

It isn't fun losing but we've won a bunch lately.  One gpod thing we are seeing is Yeli seems to be coming around at the plate.
