keston hiura recalled from class aaa nashville

I'm not sure it means anything or not, but Hiura's BB% the last couple of seasons certainly suggest that he's at least trying to be more patient... The problem is that he's getting into deeper counts, putting him in harms way of the K.

I find it interesting that while the rest-of-season predictions have him still striking out at an alarming rate, they also have him being a league-average hitter.

It's really too bad that Keston just can't throw a lick. It really puts tremendous pressure on him to hit like an all-star.

JSOnline has a baseball podcast called Microbrew (I think).  They had Keith Law on as a guest this week.  They discussed Yelich and Hiura's precipitous dropoffs.

Law says someone in the organization has tinkered with Hiura's approach.  He is trying to get more loft and power.  Law was very critical of it.  He says that it takes Hiura away from his strength, which is hitting for average and doubles as opposed to all or nothing.

Regarding Yelich, he tried to figure out whether the knee injury robbed him of power in his lower body and he hasn't gotten back to what he once was.  But Law admitted he couldn't really figure it out.

I can’t get Fangraphs or baseball savant to load on my phone today to confirm this but I believe Hiura’s launch angle has decreased a little bit.  Can’t confirm but I believe it has gone down some this year.

I'm sorry but I'm going to start locking these threads regularly. They are a deterrent to new users and if something new happens, a new thread can be started (and there is a new thread about the Hiura recall). Legacy threads are hard to read and should anyone want to reference what has been said in this thread, it is always available to link.
