We encourage you to start new threads when something notable happens

I notice there are many "mega-threads" that go on for years and I just wanted to let you know that we have been and will continue to split many of these off into smaller, more digestible threads.

So if something happens that you want to talk about, please just go ahead and start a new thread. We encourage this for a few reasons:

1. Forums with an entrenched community full of mega-threads tend to become impenetrable to new users and we want to encourage new users to sign up and join in.

2. Mega-thread titles often meander into wildly different topics, which makes the titles misleading over time. What started as a topic about Woodruff may have meandered into a discussion about Hader and the title should reflect its topic.

3. Shorter, newer threads tend to receive more participation. People tend to tunnel vision over old titles but within that thread, the conversation may be very relevant to the user, they just don't know it.

4. New, popular topics are easier to feature on the site and include in our emailers.

We're not laying out any rules here, just making suggestions to increase participation and make the forums a little more welcoming to newbies. That's all, thanks everyone!
