Vanilla Wars

Some folks here love batting average, others prefer OPS.

Some would love a leadoff hitter who leads the league in steals, others would take one with no steals, if his OBP was high enough.

To these issues I say...so what? If someone states their case using a different metric than you would prefer, it's fine to then state your case using your preferred stats, but does that mean you have to tell the other person they are "wrong?" Why not just state your case, and tell the other person why you feel the way you do. It's quite possible to make one's case without making someone else feel like a fool. Even if you are "right", you'll have a lot more success winning converts if you refrain from talking down to others.

Hey, we're all on the same side here, we're rooting for the same team, and hoping for the same outcome...is there any reason to start pushing each other's buttons over which way is the best way to decide why the team isn't winning at the moment?

Imagine if you were waiting in a line at an ice cream shop and the people ahead of you said something like this...

"I really like vanilla."

"Yes, vanilla is clearly the best flavor, but only New York vanilla, regular vanilla was fine in its time, but that was ages ago."

"You raging idiot, everyone knows French vanilla is the flavor of choice for anyone with any sense of taste, have you no knowledge at all of the history of ice cream?!"

The point is, whether you prefer a dish or a cone....don't forget to enjoy the ice cream. Go Brewers!

I completely agree with your point of view.

However I feel the answer to your question is only going to cause more trouble. It's hard to even discuss it without ragging on specifics, which can be viewed as attacking someone...

Shouldn't we be discussing Frozen Custard, not Ice Cream?
No way, custard is obviously inferior to ice creamhttp://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Fan is short for fanatic.

I blame Wang.

Vanilla is boring. Chocolate is way more important. It feeds your taste buds as well as your stomach. Geez, you guys are all idiots.

splitter, you make a great point and it is too bad that people have to be jerks to everyone else, and I don't know what has been said behind the scenes to you about this post or anyone else, but this is a serious issue, it seems like every thread is worried about a troll, idiot, not a true baseball fan, or not a good stat, and it is a shame that this thread isn't being taken more seriously.

but I guess for all I know it is just not viewable to the public.
