I have to say, I love coming home from dropping off the kiddo at Montessori and I already have a full game recorded and ready to rip. i will now watch the game in full over lunch. Here's hoping we got a more favorable result this morning and the bats picked up some.

AA Biloxi got us started early today, trying to claw back to 1-1 in their series in Montgomery. RHP Victor Castaneda (1.77 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, 7.1 K/9 in 20 1/3 innings) made his 5th start of the season, while RF Joey Wiemer (3 home runs over last 9 games) was looking to add to his recent power surge:

Well, the good news is that RHP Taylor Floyd returned for Biloxi, making his first appearance of the season.

The bad news…5 of the 6 batters he faced got hits.

It's getting to the point of: Here comes another double and another rbi for Joey Wiemer. He is just so darn consistent and such a joy to watch. He crushed another slider to deep left center to bring home Garrett Mitchell in the top of the first. Garrett with a nice piece of down the third base line end-of-the-bat double to get on base with two down. What a combo. Frelick in lead-off and back in CF continues to search for his first hit in Double-A.

Noah Campbell is having a rough early going in left field for Biloxi. He really doesn't look comfortable playing anything at present. I'm wondering if his costly drop back in Biloxi some games ago isn't in his head. He failed to grab a catchable tailing ball into left field. It wasn't an easy play, by any stretch, but it was a makable play and a play that could really build that confidence. He failed to get his glove low enough to catch the ball and it wound up conceding a triple. Tough luck right now for the youngster!

I would say the Biloxi 12-11 record feels quite right for the way they are playing right now. 0.500 seems extremely fair for the continued struggles with RISP, errors abound, and erratic bats. They are struggling to find that flow you need to string off consecutive victories. Here's hoping they can right the ship tomorrow. This wasn't a pretty game on their behalf - I'm speeding through this?

Nothing like that troubled 1/3 inning to get your season started off at a 108 era. ? Here's to better next times!

Our High-A Timber Rattlers aim to stretch their series lead to 2-0 over the Fort Wayne TinCaps. LHP Brandon Knarr has been excellent through 4 starts (1.61 ERA, 0.85 WHIP, 10.9 K/9), while 3B Zavier Warren has doubled in 5 consecutive games (9-for-20 in that time):

Low-A Carolina seeks another win to go up 2-0 in the series at home against the Augusta GreenJackets. RHP Ryne Moore makes his 5th start (3.27 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, 10.2 K/9 in 22 innings). Offensive stud SS Eduardo Garcia has 7 RBIs over his past 2 games:

Worth noting: Oswal Leones, leading off in tonight's contest, has hit safely in six consecutive games. He popped out to third to begin this affair. It would appear, early, the First Base umpire is simply cashing his check. Two very questionable calls agains each team after one inning.?

Another inside pitch fails to break and is thrown too far inside. That's three hit batters in two innings for Ryne with four total baserunners stranded. 0-0 headed to the Bottom of the second.

The AAA Sounds need to bounce back from yesterday's home loss to the Norfolk Tides, with RHP Josh Lindblom (2.11 ERA, 0.98 WHIP, 10.1 K/9 in 21 1/3 innings) on the mound and 3B Mike Brosseau (recently optioned from the MLB squad) slotting right in atop the lineup. Super-prospect SS Brice Turang tries to stretch his hitting streak to 12 games:

You'll be hard-pressed to find a prettier strikeout pitch in our lower levels than lefty Brandon Knarr's 12-6 breaking pitch. Filthy filthy stuff. I've had 3 fist-pumps already in two innings!?

With two runners aboard and two down Wes Clarke comes up clutch again: a bloop single to right center scores both. It's 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth. Wes is still at first with Micah Bello at the plate.

Mark Mathias answers the bell with his second homer of the young season and ties the game with Norfolk 2-2! Onto the top of the 7th where Miguel Sanchez looks to continue an effective outing.

What a fun slate of late games:

Professional wins abound. Solid pitching abound. Key hits. A 3-1 slate on this fine May day! Mark Mathias: We salute you. It's going to be fun handing out tags tonight!

A couple weeks ago the Brewers' minor league teams had a cumulative winning % over .700. Now it's a little under .600, which is still really good.

I was trying to think which teams would I most like to see well, and I think AA (for high-ceiling guys close to the majors) and A (for the new cohort).
