love how fast Ashby works

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

Of course,  no mention of how unusual this is from Brewers TV announcers. Really guys? No question of why Hader is not pitching here?

They mentioned it in the 8th when they saw him warming up

Hope Hader is ok…..not pitching in save situation totally rested is unusual

Yeah, I haven’t had the sound on for the whole game and expected to see Hader enter in a save situation since he hasn’t appeared now for almost a week.

If it was something serious with Hader, you would think that he'd have gone on the IL before the game. Also, if he was injured and unavailable, why would he be in the bullpen and not the dugout? Thinking they may have just wanted to get Williams some work instead since he's hasn't pitched for as long as Hader...

I think for Williams, getting regular work and keeping the feel for that changeup is more important than Hader getting regular work.  For Hader, I'd just rather see him keep his innings down and hopefully save 10 - 12 -15 innings for the post season if possible.  If Williams can't hold a 3 run lead for one inning against the Reds, just cut him right now.

Why waste Hader on a three run lead against the Reds? I think we can all agree managing for stats is a bad call.

I totally agree about managing for stats. But, there can be a fine line between saving him and letting him get rusty by going too long in between appearances.

If he’s OK and Counsell just decided to rest him for another day, that’s fine. But when I see Hader not coming in in a save situation when he hasn’t pitched in 5 days it makes me wonder.
