As an aside, I'm really curious how long the Rays can keep it up when they're giving up players that play well on other teams (Adames on the Brewers, Ryan on the Twins). They're getting great performance out of Rasmussen, which works well for the Adames trade, but they can't play the 1:1 trade ratio game and succeed. They have to win trades, not tie or lose. It was easy to keep up what they were doing when they were dishing off people like Chris Archer and Blake Snell for huge hauls but then those players failed with their new teams.

Eventually, they're going to start losing trades more often as other teams catch up, as they did on the Nelson Cruz/Joe Ryan trade with the Twins and, at least in part, as they did with the Adames trade.

The trade involving Jake Cronenworth didn’t turnout to great either, but they have so much quality depth causing roster crowding that it doesn’t seem like losing a few trades is much of a concern at this point. They have such a unique operation, I find the Rays fascinating.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I also find them fascinating. I'm fascinated with their front office but hate their ownership (before it became en vogue, I did the math and figured out the math that the Rays' payroll is less than what they receive in national TV revenue).

But ultimately, they're going to decline if other teams catch up and they start giving up too many Joe Ryans in trade for very little.

I still believe MLB missed an opportunity when the Marlins were sold to move the Rays to Miami and then move the Marlins to another city.  I know MLB wanted to keep two teams in Florida but as of right now it looks like the Rays will be moving out of Florida as they are not going to get a new stadium.

The Rays in Miami would just be a better franchise for that city than the Marlins.

As long as they continue to be excellent (which isn't easy) at draft and develop, they can roll with this strategy for as long as teams are willing to deal with them.

I don't view the Adames trade as a loss per se.  They got a couple very viable arms and it opened a roster spot for Wander Franco.  Now....they already had Wander Franco, and one can argue that a good team will always find a place to play valuable players.  But in the same vein, I'll always make the argument that valuation of assets (like Willy Adames) is knowing when to flip them.  They turned WIlly Adames into a front end of the bullpen reliever, and a guy who's starting for them now, when he was hitting .160 and looked to be at the very lowest ebb of his value.

I hope Woody will lock in & get through six or seven innings tonight … no more home runs

He may be our fifth best starting pitcher this year … which is amazing

If Ashby  continues to impress, Woody might be our 6th best starter.

Not sure if joking.....

Is trading Woody our best option for acquiring another strong bat?

The Brewers can’t extend all of these pitchers … that may be our best option ( but I don’t like it at all)

I prefer to trade a few of our top prospects (Mitchell & Small) if they can get a good return

I hope we keep Frelick & Turang

As far as trading Woodruff...This winter, maybe. This season, no way. With our pitching, the time to go for it is now, and there is no prospect that is untouchable in my view, maybe with the exception of Wiemer.

Yeah, he's gonna be fine.  My comment was pretty much tongue in cheek.

Yeah I figured. Just has a high BABIP and a higher walk-rate than normal due to his first start against the Cubs. Nice part is we're not reliant on him to have a great start every time through the rotation like we were in 2020, when we had guys like Lindblom and Anderson.

I mean I like the Adames trade for the Brewers as much as the next guy, but they were making room for Wander Franco and Willy had been really cold before we made the deal.

The Rays advantage isn’t as big as it used to be, but they still are quite a bit ahead when you look at the totality of their transactions. Just the fact that they compete against the three headed monster that is NYY/BOS/TOR (in terms of revenue and spending) is testament to their FO.
