LAD has SF & SD to contend with while at least PHI is trying in the East besides ATL & NYM. 

I would go as far as to say the pirates and reds are the worst two teams in the NL. So getting to play those two teams 4 or 5 series each is really good for the overall record. The dbacks, Rockies, marlins, etc all have enough going for them to be really pesky to the other contenders, that's aside from the other two divisions each having three true contenders(I think Philly has enough to contend, probably a better team than the Cardinals frankly)
