The Brewers face their longtime arch nemesis Jose Quintana starting just before the noon hour today. As a refresher, here is Quintana’s career line versus the Brewers:

Split W L ERA G GS IP H ER HR BB SO HBP WHIP SO9 SO/W
Milwaukee Brewers 9 4 2.78 18 17 106.2 79 33 12 28 98 2 1.003 8.3 3.50

Looking at the batter versus pitcher stats, Lorenzo Cain has had more than 100 career plate appearances versus Quintana. It makes sense since their careers have overlapped the same divisions (AL Central and NL Central) during similar periods. I can’t imagine there are many active pitchers Cain has faced more frequently.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

I’m expecting another close, low scoring game. The only question for me is whether Hader is available if we’re ahead late.

I disagree. Peralta hasn't been sharp yet this year, and Quintana has been fairly battered by almost everyone in the lineup today. I'm expecting closer to 12-8 than 3-1. And I doubt Hader is available after 26 pitches something like 12 hours ago and pitching a small amount the prior day. He also generally wasn't sharp yesterday. Probably boxberger or Williams will act closer today if needed.

Hasn't Hader pitched in 4 of the last 5 games?

I don't think there is any way we see him unless we have a 17 inning affair and they are out of arms.

Yelich getting a day off makes sense

I know he makes a ton of money and is a good professional (and im not going to have sympathy for him) but I really wonder if he even likes playing or wants to play anymore.   He's just not good.  At all. (and I dont think its coming back)    Thats got to be depressing for a former MVP who is supposed in the prime of their career

Hall of Fame/Barry Bonds-level Yelich is never coming back. However, I refuse to rule out the possibility of him becoming a good hitter for us again. After all, just look at the Giants and the Reds last year. Votto, Posey, and Crawford were all aging vets on high priced contracts who looked dead in the water going on a few years, yet enjoyed career-type years and played key roles on contenders. That's what the hope has to be for us moving forward. And Yelich is 3-5 years younger than those guys were, too.

Yea he truly looks miserable. Baseball is such a tough game and he has to be so frustrated. Then you get in your own head and its tough to get out of it.    He does seem to have a sense of humor about it at least.  But even still you you can't help but feel bad for him, of course knowing he gets 175 mil for it you can't feel all that bad.

I know no one is really all that great of a hitter for MKE so not like there's a ton of better options but they really have to put him lower in the lineup until he shows something.     I agree it's not a lost cause, just get back to being borderline AS level and it's enough not to kill us.

I hope they don’t even consider using Hader today.

He’s pitched 4 of the last 5 days and threw a lot of pitches and was not sharp yesterday.

The Brewers have to be able to win at least 40-50 games this year without needing Hader to finish. Some days they’ll have to win with more offense and with other pitchers getting the final outs. Today has to be one of those days.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Simple fact is, Yelich is paid like one of the best players in MLB, and he just isn't that anymore.  Far too young to give up on, maybe, but until we see something, anything that looks like the guy we thought we were getting, he will continue to be ridiculed.  I mean, that contract JUST started, it would be easier to take if it were 5 years from now when he started his descent into suckiness, but the 1st or 2nd year into the contract, and we have a guy that should probably be hitting 7th in the order at best?  Just plain sad what has happened.

I feel horrible for the guy as a person, but the kind of money he is being paid completely strips us of the ability to sign those big bats we need.

Enjoy listening to Tim Dillard more than Rock.  However, his comment last inning regarding auto strike zone and catchers good at framing...ughh.. Tim, not how it works. Framing will become a non-factor.  It records the pitch as it goes through the strike zone.  What the catcher does with the ball or how he moves his glove after that would not be important.

Hiura takes this guy deep a week ago has reverse splits and gets PH for.

Makes no sense at all...unless Keston is dealing with an injury?

Perhaps until he starts hitting again he should be hitting further down the lineup.
