With Monday's day off and Tuesday's game suspended in the first inning, the Mudcats and Wood Ducks should be especially fresh. RHP Brannon Jordan makes his 4th start of the year. He's been solid (3.00 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 15.0 K/9), though he's still chasing his first win of 2022:

After a terrific start to the season, High-A Wisconsin now finds themselves riding a 2-game losing streak. Never fear, RHP Max Lazar is on the mound to make his 4th appearance and 2nd start of the season, this one in Peoria. DH Darrien Miller homered and singled yesterday, which is a hopeful sign for the offense. However, 2B Tyler Black is out of the lineup after yesterday's collision:

After an opening-game loss yesterday, AAA Nashville tries to even the series in St. Paul, with veteran RHP Josh Lindblom making his 4th start (2.35 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, 9.4 K/9) of the season. With hits in his last 6 games, SS Brice Turang has raised his slash to .313 AVG / .370 OBP / .433 SLG:

Tyler White at 3B should be a fun little adventure ...

Hey, the young Carolina Mudcats snapped their 4-game skid, winning 8-6 to even up their record at 8-8. Take note: it's best to bunch your hits together :) :

  • 2 hits in 2nd inning - 1 run
  • 4 hits in 5th inning - 3 runs
  • 4 hits in 7th inning - 4 runs
  • Other six innings combined: 1 hit, 0 runs.

Hendry Mendez and Micah Bello each reached base 3 times.

Timber Rattlers' manager Joe Ayrault was ejected in the first inning, so I'm going to assume he did not agree with a play at the plate which gave Peoria an early 1-0 lead. Or maybe he needed to buy some items at Mall of America and heard the crowds were light today.

2-2 game in the 8th inning. Go Wisconsin!

I'll be watching both tilts shortly so will have updates. Suffice to say, in the Wisconsin tilt:

Tristan Peters (early candidate for 'most surprising player' in early 2022) knocked in the game-tying run with a single in the Top of the 8th. The other run was a Sal Frelick HR - his 2nd of the year - who is 3 of 4 on the day. Joe Gray Jr. came to the plate with 2 on and 1 down...and, the inning ended. 2-2 Bottom of the 8th.

With the game tied 2-2, nemesis Tommy Jew, launched a 3 run homer off struggling Robbie Baker to left field. It's 2-5. If I'm not mistaken, Tommy had responsibilities in key plays yesterday as well. It doesn't look good here entering the ninth. And, the T-Rats go quietly into the afternoon. 3 up and 3 down. 2-5 is the final score. They've now lost 3 straight.

Linbolm just gave up his first run of his outing: a rip to LF by Twin's #3 prospect Jose Miranda. Miranda is starting to look more like his 2021 self - he also ripped a double earlier today. Quite a talent. 0-1 'bad guys' - Tryler White has the sole hit for the Sounds.

The Sounds continue to hit with RISP - hitting .246 as a team on the season they currently hit .271 with RISP. Brian Navarreto (C) - shoutout to the former Twins farmhand! - knocked in David Dahl on a well-hit single to CF. 1-1 onto the bottom of the fifth.

Well, I don't know what is happening with non-chalant attempts in left field these past two slates of lower level games but Pablo Reyes just botched (casually, might I add) a routine drifting fly out with 2 down in center left field. The runner is now on 2nd with 2 down. Hopefully, Josh can get out of it. What was a very efficient inning just ran into trouble. 1-2 on the next batter.

Nashville leads 2-1 as Drew Strotman (recall the Nelson Cruz trade - 1 of 4 players the Twins received) continues his struggles with walking batters as he shifts to the bullpen. Pablo Reyes draws the walk in the Top of the 7th with the bases loaded. Nashville leads 2-1 into the bottom of the same inning. Both Tyler White and Brice Turang were the recipients of questionable low strike calls - neither player all too pleased. Brice's borderline call would have walked in batter number 2. So it goes.

Oh I tell you a Minor League play extraordinaire ties the game: a deep fading ball to the wall over Weston Wilson who barehands the ball and throws a beauty to the cut-off man Monasterio beyond first base. A bullet to the plate - the runner is out by 5-8' and Navarreto somehow drops the ball on the tag. The runner never tags the plate and Navarreto clearly comes back and tags the base runner. The inning should be over. BUT, no, the ump completely blows the call. There is no replay in the Minor Leagues and it is onto the next runner. Miguel Sanchez must continue to pitch. And, I sigh. And continue to watch. Sometimes, the ball just does not roll the way of logic or factuality. It would appear, this same umpire sees low strikes just as he sees missed touches of home plate: he creates the zone. ?

Mejia escapes a lead-off double over first base and into foul territory with some nasty nasty slider and breaking ball work. On to the top of the 9th and it's still 2-2. Like I said in yesterday's report: this is Triple-A pitching staff nasty at its best. A fine series for baseball purists.

Into extras, the Sounds loaded the bases with no outs and did their vintage Brewers of old best: a Jon Singleton strikeout (my broken heart ?) followed by a weak chopper to the mound by Mario Feliciano (0-5 on the day) and a double play - Home to First. And, we're on to the bottom of the 10th where the Saints will throw their Manfred Man to second base.

An infield single bunt by Banuelos the Saints catcher. Incredible bunt. Runners on first and third no outs for Trevor Kelley. The Saints had only one sacrifice in all of 2021 and, well, what can you say to a Catcher throwing down an impeccably placed bunt. Good stuff.

Game over. 2-3 Saints. The Soundss fail to knock in bases loaded men in the 7th and the 10th and it comes back to bite them in the proverbial behind. The Saints' Royce Lewis, on the other hand, did execute ripping a single up the Middle off the glove of Kelley. On to the next.

Our AA Shuckers have lost 6 of their past 7 games, so today’s mission is to take the lead over Pensacola and hold it. RHP Tyler Herb makes his 4th start (2.92 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, 8.8 K/9 in 12 1/3 innings). RF Joey Wiemer leads the offense, having gone 2-for-3 yesterday with a double and a walk to boost his season slash to .339 AVG / .414 OPS / .532 SLG:

Everything is better when you hang a breaking ball to the Dreamer Wiemer. His 3rd homerun - an absolute left field no doubter -knocks in Garrett Mitchell and the Shuckers lead again. Can they hold on? Definitely an unknown as of late.

6 up and 6 down for Minor League veteran Tyler Herb with 4 k's. Looking sharp early. It would be really awesome if Tyler could go 5-6 innings so we can get some needed rest for the overworked and struggling, as of late, bullpen.

With Urias and Mitchell aboard, Captain Wiemer misses a 3-run HR by about an inch on the bat. Just out in front of the first pitch heater and just a notch under it and the home run becomes a fly out to the edge of the Warning Track. It's still 2-0 in the bottom of the third.

We have a Garrett Mitchell web gem, folks. Just a heck of a diving catch to get out number one in the top of the ninth with the Shuckers clinging to a 2-0 lead. Can't wait to plug it into the Minor League report. It was a full stretch on a ball inches from the grass and tailing away in shallow center right. Love to see it!
