Brewers are home for one before heading back to Pennsylvania. The Giants announced they are pitching Sam Long as a spot starter. Long hasn’t thrown more than 31 pitches in his previous four appearances this season, so he’ll likely only go a couple innings in what should become a bullpen game for San Francisco.

Credit to Giants thus far for sort of picking up where they left off last season. I don’t know if it’s the fancy hitting machines, their dozen plus coaches, or something else entirely, but they seem to be onto something.

The only Brewers hitter that has previously faced Sam Long is Andrew McCutchen (0-for-3).

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Random lefty reliever for a spot start against this Brewers lineup? MLB managers aren't stupid. Get ready for the Brewers to face a ton of random soft-tossing lefties until they prove they can hit them.

Long has a 94.4 average FB velocity so far this year.

He might be a random lefty, but not sure he’s a soft tosser.

I knew that strike to Segura was bad but EESH!

The Segura and Narvaez strike out calls were both unhittable pitches that the batter had no chance at even fouling off.  The Schwarber one he could possibly foul off but the Segura and Narvaez ones were near impossible to even get any part of the bat on the ball.

Unfortunately the umpires union will not call out Angel Hernandez on this and MLB is basically powerless on doing anything about it also.  Hernandez will continue to be bad and will continue to umpire baseball games.  There is zero accountability and the union doesn't really care as long as the robo umps and other things don't come.

The umpires in MLB are just for the most part incompetent.  They can't explain calls other than saying runner is out ok we see that but why was the runner out?  The NBA and NFL have both perfected the reviews and explanations of what happened why cant MLB umpires do the same?

It can't be a pride thing as the majority of the calls are upheld just explain why the ruling was upheld or overturned it is not that difficult.

Automated balls and strikes will be tested at the MLB level at each stadium this year. So hopefully in 2023 we no longer have to deal with this stuff.

Hader is hard enough to hit, give him an extra 2 inches off the plate and its not fair. I found cruising twitter that the segura "strike" was 6.47 inches off the plate. Home plate is 17 inches wide. Segura very well could have been hit by the pitch if he didn't stand so far off the plate.

The NBA and NFL I would not agree are perfect, they are lightyears ahead of MLB though which is your primary point. I would bet a decade from now...MLB still won't be as good as NBA/NFL is currently.

Be honest, how many players batting in the bottom half of the San Francisco’s lineup tonight would you’ve been able to correctly identify as Giants players prior to today?

Their coaching staff will probably have them all running 120 wRC+ by the end of the season too.

By names alone there is no way they should be anywhere NEAR the Dodgers.

Hard not to have respect for what Farhan and crew have pulled off the last couple two tree years.

All right, how are the ads? The game threads are the true test but right now, page bouncing is almost nonexistent for me.

I've got hotels.com, gran turismo 7, progressive, and hefty on my page right now.  Reasonably better than the awful fizy hard cider commercials.

This ump is the Anti Angel

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006
