Game Thread (4/17/2022): Cardinals (Hudson) at Brewers (Ashby) - 1:10 PM CDT

Eye Black

Brewers at best a 75 win team … I’m so glad they don’t play on 4/21 (my 61st birthday) … I can’t not watch (intentional double negative to any grammarians) … this team is so frustrating & so disappointing … I’ve only enjoyed one game this season - the 5-1 victory on 4/14 Day

Barring a series of major injuries there is almost no chance this is a below .500 ball club this season.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Assuming they repeat last year’s pitching stats, you are correct.

I’m concerned about their middle relief. I believe their starters will (eventually) be fine. Their offense, however, is horrid & only a trade will resolve their incompetence.

The offense has started out struggling.  Aside from getting rid of Bradley, who was one of the worst performers in MLB history, and basically swapping Renfroe in for Garcia, the offense is pretty much the same as last year, which was overall around a league average offense.  It's not "horrid".  It's struggling right now, which is frustrating to watch.

Seems "Very rarely do you see Wong" is a phrase happening at least once every game this year.  Is that actually Keston over at second?

It took a year, but the act of putting on a Brewers jersey finally caught up to him. That act causes abilities to diminish greatly.

Actually, it’s probably is also taking the Cardinals jersey off, as that jersey increases your abilities substantially.

George Webb predicts the Brewers will win 10 in a row at some point this year so he's pretty optimistic they'll be ok.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

I’m not saying a trade for a bat won’t happen.  I think it could make sense. But I’m not sure this offense’s current results represent anything like it’s true character.  Progression towards the mean for nearly everyone should do wonders, especially Adames and Renfroe.

Sure, at the end of the year the totality of the offense won't be "horrid". but when it is struggling it is "horrid".

Through 10 games, Players that have played WELL below their projected numbers:      Wong, Adames, Tyrone Taylor, Renfroe, Yelich, Omar thats 2/3 of your everyday lineup. Team can move to 5-5 with a win. They haven’t played good, at all, and still are competitive. Urias is such a massive piece as well, need him back. Adames looks like he is pressing far too much.

This is specifically what I was referring to.
