Tonight is Steven Matz first appearance in Milwaukee since May 3, 2019. He went 5.2 IP and gave up 3 runs on 9 hits (2 home runs) and 1 walk with 3 strikeouts that day.

Adrian Houser is making his first start at home this season. Houser had a good season overall last year, but was particularly good at home:

Split W L W-L% ERA G GS GF CG SHO SV IP H R ER HR BB IBB SO HBP BK WP BF WHIP SO9 SO/W
Home 3 3 .500 2.81 15 13 0 1 1 0 73.2 59 28 23 7 32 0 60 5 1 6 303 1.235 7.3 1.88
Away 7 3 .700 3.67 13 13 0 0 0 0 68.2 59 33 28 5 32 0 45 4 0 3 296 1.325 5.9 1.41
Not just “at Night” anymore.

Yelich not in the starting lineup. Hiura is batting 4th. Wong is the only LHH starter. They are a Luis Urias away from being able to put out a lineup swinging entirely from the right side.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

Hiura batting cleanup should put an end, at least for the time being, to the debate about the strength of the Brewers offense. Maybe they'll break through the 5 run ceiling tonight after scoring just 4 runs total in 3 previous games started by LHP. But Hiura batting anywhere in the middle of the lineup seems to speak for itself about the team's lack of quality hitters.

I don't expect him to go 9 innings, but the Brewers could sure use an efficient quality start similar to what Houser did against the Cardinals last September.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I don't think any debate is over because one guy is slotted into a spot in the order in game 9 of the season.  It might be over for you?  If you've decided what you think is true based on 8 games, that's cool.

McCutchen will hit a homer with at least 2 hits

Adames will get 1 hit, an extra-base one

Renfroe will go deep twice tonight -- 3 hits altogether

Hiura will hit the ball decently but will go hitless

Taylor will have one smoking liner off the wall for his only hit

Cain will bloop two singles tonight

Wong will have a looping liner to left for a single for his only hit

Brosseau will come up empty with plenty of popups

Caratini will have one ground ball single

Houser will go six quality innings -- giving up 3 earned runs

Final Score will be Brewers 7  Cardinals 6

Book it!

It should be clear from all of my posts in other threads that my opinions and expectations about the Brewers offense are not based on these 8 games.

But, if you’ve decided that anyone who makes any critical comments about the Brewers is basing everything just on today’s batting order or these 8 games, that’s cool too.
