How to get an avatar (Yuku directions about 19 posts down)

Recommended Posts

Also, consider this tidbit from the forum FAQ:

The maximum displayable size of your photo when used at the Brewerfan.net Fan Forum is 60x60. Try and select a photo that's roughly that size, as the larger your photo is, the longer it will take people to download it.

Also, try and use a free online image hosting service to host your image such as:

http://photobucket.com/

Some sites aren't really happy to have their servers taxed by constantly having another site downloading their photos.

And it really does help page loading time if file sizes and dimensions are small. There's an avatar floating around here somewhere that's half a megabyte and over 2,000 by 2,000 pixels.

This will be much less of an issue with Yuku. It'll create thumbnails and display those instead of the originals.

It should have taken. I took a look and what you describe seems right. I'd try again and report back.

ah, I figured out what happened. I'd saved the photo to my desktop because I had to size it down, so I was typing in the location of the photo and not the Web address, and that's why nothing was saving.

Edit: yep. when I do it the right way, everything's fine. I'll delete the photo, though, because it's beyond 60x60.

do you have to have some program like MS Paint to be able to size these photos down? the ones I'm able to find on the Web at 60x60 don't have much to them. is there an easy way to change photo size?

really, I'm only looking for an avatar so it's easier to identify my posts and read which ones have come after.

To keep this thread on the topic of avatars, I'll post another thing you can do to set off your posts in this thread: Sigs often looked too much like messages, but not anymore.

Another option for resizing images would be to check the software that came bundled with a printer, scanner, or digital camera.

Obviously, this thread is mostly obsolete and the Usability FAQ needs complete rewrite. But I'll quickly note here that Yuku avatars are 100px by 100px rather than ezBoard's 60 x 60.

Load your profile. You can get there quickly by clicking on your username in your post. Click the edit button in the 'mini-profile': that's where you see your username, gender, location, etc. You'll land on a page with a lot of settings. Click on the actual avatar (or avatar placeholder) in the "Change Avatar" area. You'll be taken to your avatar choices. Choose your avatar. You'll be brought back to the edit page. Make sure you hit the save button at the bottom.
