Its not that the text is too big, but the size of each post is huge. Looking at this topic, I can only see three one-line posts without scrolling. Big avatars are nice, but I'd rather see more of the text without scrolling all over.

Also, I changed my "replies per page" in my preferences (and clicked submit and received a message that they'd been changed), but it looks like I still only get 20 per page. Am I missing something?

chuckiehacks, there's a "Use My Settings" checkbox on the preferences page that you'll need to check to make your personal choices kick in.

Minimum post heights are determined by the height of the poster information in the box to the left. There isn't much that can be done about that other than to block everyone's avatar.

I agree, I'd rather have shorter posts and smaller avatars, but whatever.

Casey, could we use css to control the avatar size if we wanted to?

Edit: Hmm, image size is specified directly in the img tag, so I think that overrules any stylesheet properties. It should be pretty easy to create a User Javascript that would shrink all the images down, I'll probably do that at some point.

Now the text looks really small to me. I'm on IE 6.0 at work, so I don't really have any other browser options. I'll compare Firefox at home tonight. My text size is set to medium and it looks fine on other sites (like the non-forum parts of bf.net), but really small here. If I switch it to large, it is giant here and enormous elsewhere. Right now the text in the looks roughly the equivlent of 8 point, while the date/post count/titles look to be more like 6 - I can barely read them.

TC, I think it taxes browsers to re-size images. In other words, it's probably just fine for inline pics within messages, but probably not-so good to do it with pictures all over a page. Kristen could probably comment on that.

Here's end user CSS that'll eat avatars entirely.

div.avatar-block img {display:none !important}
I don't have time right now to get into detailed directions, but you might be able to figure out what to do by reading this thread: Sigs often looked too much like messages, but not anymore.

To mess with signatures, click the Navigation button on the top right of any forum page. Look for the Edit Signatures link that appears at the upper left of the controls that appear.

chuckie, I bet IE is picking up on that 8 pt font in the body tag that Kristen mentioned probably shouldn't be there.

What an awful browser. My sympathies. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

I feel like a site newbie all over again as Yuku took away almost 3000 of my posts. But remember...it's the quality, not the quantity.

I think I've finally figured most of this out though.

"His whole life is a fantasy camp. People should plunk down $2000 to live like him for a week. Sleep, do nothing, fall ass-backwards into money, mooch food off your neighbors and have sex without dating... THAT'S a fantasy camp."

For those who had chat issues, I just checked out the chat and it seems to work fine for me.

More detailed signature directions:

  • Click Navigation button at upper right of page.
  • Click Edit Signature link in controls that appear.
  • You can edit or delete current signatures by hitting buttons in the Action column.
  • You can choose a Default signature by hitting a radio button in the Default column.
  • You can add a signature by hitting the add signature » button underneath the signature list.

What specifically is too big? Do you mean too wide or too tall?

The size of avatars can be reduced in your CSS. (CSS overides image height and width in the HTML unless there's an inline CSS style for those which there isn't on Yuku.) So if you like I can help you with that. Remember though that if you reduce image sizes using CSS then the image quality will suffer (the avatars will look more "pixelly" and less smooth).

That's right, I saw the height and width specified in the code and forgot that those can be overridden, it's when you have a style=".." attribute that it takes precedence.

Anyone see a 'Mark all forums read' option?

I just found it, whizkid. http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif Look at the bottom right on the main forum page.

If the post takes up that much space I don't mind, but otherwise I'd rather shrink it down and not have to scroll as much.

Do you mean shrink down the avatars so the entire post isn't as tall?

By the way, you could also get rid of avatars entirely...
