Yuku cutover issues (Latest: Splitting/merging topics; cuss filter)

Weird, for some reason I can read the chat, but it won't let me participate.

I have a message that reads, "Connection failed! Maybe your network can't access the server, or the server is under maintenance, please try again later."

It's obviously not a problem on my end, as I was in there earlier in the evening. Anything I can do to get back in the chat?

Just keep trying, strawboss. If it doesn't work in one browser, try another. We haven't quite grasped the pattern of when, why, or how it breaks.

(Sorry, Kristen, I know it'd be nice if you could see something more specific. http://static.yuku.com/v2//domainskins/bypass/img/smileys/smile.gif)

EDIT: Wow, RoCo; somebody else is complaining about fonts being too big. Methinks you might be in IE 6? It can't handle the code modern browsers do. If you're in there, try adjusting your default browser font size.

I've tried it in both IE 7 and Firefox, and no dice. The weird thing is that it actually enters me into the chat, but it is shaded, and I am not able to enter any messages.

I have gotten the same error message in both. It's strange, because two hours ago or so, everything was working fine for me.

I like the changes, but not the fact that Yuku is now deemed inappropriate at work now. Great, work production has to increase!
My thoughts exactly. That really sucks. How am I supposed to get my Brewerfan fix during the day when Yuku is blocked as a Social;Dating site?

T BONE 10,

On the Yuku end, it's a constant work in progress. Things have improved tremendously and often over the past few months.

On Brewerfan's end, it's definitely a work in progress. There'll be tweaks to the skin and functionality as we get into this over the next few days.

I believe Yuku views social as 'communities' rather than dating. Unfortunately, the word seems to red-flag blockers.

Another biggie red flag is the use of the word 'profile'. That word was suggested as a possible reason for the 'women seeking women' ads in the profiles of members of a cross-stitch forum.

Yuku is generally loading much faster for me. The post editor is a bit slower, though, but I attribute it to the WYSIWIG format being much more complex than what we had before.

EDIT: Am I the only one who's finding that my scroll wheel doesn't work in chat?

EDIT 2: I love the fact that threads mark themselves read. I formerly used Mark Forum Read regularly. Now it's something I'll use occasionally or rarely.

argh...i guess i'll have downloading to try Firefox, because the chat is STILL not working for me.

This message continues to show:

The community you were looking for does not exist. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/frown.gif

so is there a way to click on a thread from a forum view and go to either "last post" or "first new post since last visit" although these types of shortcuts may lead to people posting information in a thread that was already stated and I would understand if we wanted to promote more reading and less reposting

but its nice for those of us who do read more than we post

overall, I like what I am seeing so far

I originally used ems for the font sizes in order to allow IE users to be able to re-size the fonts in their browsers if they wished. Some of your members may have inadvertently set the default font size in their browser to be either larger or smaller though so that would account for why some people were saying fonts were too big while others were saying they were too small.

It looks like you've added some new font sizes in points which can be unpredictable since points are really meant for print.

Using pixels for font sizes is the easiest to work with and most predictable since you can set the sizes exactly and they will look the same in all browsers. The main draw back to using pixels is that IE users won't be able to resize the fonts then if they want to.

BTW, if you want to center the board just look for this code in your CSS:

#wrapper {

background-color: #FFF;

width: 95%;

border: 5px solid #000;

font-size: 1em;

margin-left: 8px;

}

Replace the line of code highlighted in yellow with:

margin: auto;
