Game Thread (4/11/2022): Brewers (Houser) at Orioles (Zimmermann) - 2:05 PM CDT

Eye Black

Last year, we scored 3 runs or less 73 times by my count.

The Orioles scored 3 runs or less 80 times

The Brewers won 30 more games than the Orioles,  give or take.

I am concerned that if the pitching slips just a bit,  it could be a very disappointing season.

I know it's probably jaded memories only focusing on the bad outcomes....but I've long felt like the Brewers absolutely stink offensively on the road in day games - most of the time those are getaway days on top of it, but based on the results thus far during 4 day games I'm very much looking forward to playing some games under the lights.

Milwaukee Wolves?

Milwaukee Vampires?

Milwaukee Bats?

Where is Cool Hand Lucroy to calm us down?

Like Julio, childcare called.

And all I got today is the Royals are really fun. So much speed.

Seriously, I'm just weird, man. I spent so many years caring way too much about W-L record, which is torture for a small-market fan. I just want baseball to be fun. Winning is a bonus.

Of course, this team has played a really unfun brand of baseball so far. Brent Suter will change that soon ?.

Further research shows

The Orioles went 6-74 in those games

The Brewers went 24-49

You need to get use to the 2022 Brewer offense. They are not very good, and believe they will be in the bottom 5 in run scored this year.

So, if we lose 12 more of those games last year,  the team goes an uninspiring 83-79.   I'm worried that may be the fate of this team

The pitch clock cannot arrive quickly enough.

A pitch clock is honestly the only thing that will make a difference in shortening games.  None of the other small gimmicks (intentional walks, three batter min, etc.) make any difference.

Unless the pitch clock is enforced like Giannis' free throw shooting.

I want to take this moment to publicly applaud treego’s efforts in this thread, lest they go unrecognized. There ought to be medals handed out for stuff like that.

Looks like the ignore feature still works on the new forum...

What makes you think they will go from 12th in runs scored in MLB to bottom 5?

There might be some good news today.

Every year since the Brewers 13 game winning streak to start the 1987 season I’ve paid attention to how long it takes for the last undefeated team to lose.

Unless the Rays can come back from a 9-0 deficit no team this year will reach 4-0 and the record of 13 will remain.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Sounds like we didn't even try to sign or trade for a legitimate bat. Wasting 17 million or so on McCutchen and Renfroe was not the answer.

It's not like they went out & signed them both for 17 million, and could've just taken the money & signed Castellanos instead. You don't trade for Renfroe, you still have JBJ & his contract. I don't defend every move this front office has made, but that trade made a lot of sense.

If you want to claim that they should've passed on Cutch, kept Bradley & then still had the ability to get Castellanos to say yes, have at it. But I don't think there's anyone here who can say that with certainty.

Unless I’m mistaken they could have just dropped Renfroe instead of paying him. I’m pretty sure he was arbitration eligible and could have just let him go instead of paying him the 7 million or so that they did.

Between McCutchen and Renfroe we are paying I believe 16 or 17 million. Add that to our other outfielders and this team has at least 50 million tied up in an outfield that just isn’t good with only Yelich having any upside.

im sorry but after how we flailed away down the stretch and in the playoffs we didn’t do nearly enough to improve this offense.
