Frustration in Appleton, as the Rattlers strand 5 runners in the first two innings of the second game. Loaded 'em with 1 out in the first, then had 1st and 2nd with 1 out in the second, but none made it home. 0-0 going into the 3rd inning.

Went to see the Mudcats this afternoon.  Jeferson Quero was DHing, but looked really good hitting.  Uses the entire field.  Hedbert pulled a double to right for his first hit of the season, but overall didn't look confident up there.  Not much action to him in the field.

The Timber Rattlers finally got a run across in the 5th inning of the 2nd game of their double-header, with back-to-back doubles by Sal Frelick and Tyler Black to tie it at 1-1. Unfortunately, Black was then picked off.

Now, RHP Max Lazar makes his first appearance since 2019, in relief for the Rattlers in the 6th inning. Let's go Max!

The Sounds scored 4 in the 7th inning to pull ahead of the Durham Bulls, 4-3, with a Brice Turang double proving decisive. Then Miguel Sanchez (7 pitches, 1 K) and Luis Perdomo (13 pitches, 3 Ks) made quick work in the 8th and 9th innings to close it out.

I can't help but wonder why Zack Brown hasn't pitched since 1 inning on April 6th, with Luke Barker instead having to work another 1 1/3 innings today. I hope he's fine.

Catcher Paul McIntosh of the Marlins is making a mockery of draft boards. Undrafted in 2021, he put up a 1.020 OPS in 94 Low-A PAs last year (6 home runs, 15 walks, 20 Ks). Leaping to AA Pensacola, he's now 4-6 with 2 home runs and a double to start the year. He may be quite a story.

Nice to see Puello picking up left off in Arizona last year. While Jimenez scuffled a bit, 2/3 of the young sleeper arm contingent in Carolina has performed well thus far. Now next week Cornielle, Segura and Figueroa should get their chance.

Absolutely, and I would add: he looked really nice doing it today. Controlled. Hitting the zone. His breaking ball was really effective. He definitely has a frame that says: possible major leaguer here. Will be a fun one to keep an eye on.

Gotta love that. I had to run out of the house after Mejia was scuffling and gave up the sac fly. Great to see both Sanchez and Perdomo locking it down early in their AAAA roles.

Down 2-1 in the bottom half of the final inning against the formidable Wilfredo Pereira (3.33 ERA, 1.19 WHIP and 115 Ks in 97 1/3 innings in High-A last year), the Timber Rattlers win on a walk-off anyway. Yeison Coca earned a 10-pitch walk, Sal Frelick a 7-pitch walk, then Tyler Black singled them both home. Woo hoo!

Victor Castaneda exits after 4 2/3 innings (66 pitches), with runners on the corners. Then Zach Vennaro dispatched that threat with just one pitch. Biloxi leads Pensacola 3-1 through 5 innings.

My Wiemer antenna must have gone off. I check in to Biloxi, up 3-1 (on zero base hits but 2 errors) in the 7th and Joey in a 0-1 count. He drove the count to 3-2. Fought off several pitches then took a very enticing low breaking ball and finds a BB and a trip to 1st base.

I'll just say this: It is early but Joey Wiemer has put together pro AB's in nearly every trip to the plate since calming his nerves after his first AB. There is so much to like in this young man. A very very impressive start to his season.

The flip side to this would be Dillard's 3 pitch K on a breaking ball over the heart of the outside-middle. LOL. I'm a Wiemer Dreamer.

29 yo Tyler Herb with a very clean inning after Zamora's throwing error inducing 2 fly outs to Valerio in LF (another familiar organizational positional shift for a promising young prospect) who fights off a very intense glare off the 1B side of the ballpark to safely corral both fly outs. Tyler finishes with a 94 mph K. You love to see a prospect up in age hitting the strike zone with ease.

Thankfully, Freddy didn't get another opportunity in inning 8 to further question his throws to First. Tyler gets a fly out to Middle-Deep CF where Wiemer hauls it in. After one false insurance step backward, and sitting under the lofty fly ball, Joey hauled it in and launched an absolute rocket to 3rd base. No bounce. He has an absolute cannon of an arm, my goodness. The runner stays at 2nd. Herb then follows up with a breaking ball over the heart of the plate catching Conine Jr. looking elsewhere late in the 3-2 count just after laying off a very enticing and very well delivered low breaker just below the zone. On to the 9th, where the Shuckers look to complete the sweep.

We have bases juiced. 1 out. And Herb still on the mound. After taking a comebacker off his tailbone with 1 down, Herb has given up 2 singles to LF. Here we go. These are they high leverage outs. Luna is up in the bullpen.

WOW. Devanney just made a great play at the Hot corner. Picks up a chopper right at the bag with ease and poise and rifles one right on the money to First where he turns the double play! Break out the Brooms! What a great opening series for our 2022 Shuckers.

It got exciting in the end, @damuelle. Another walk off. This time a 2 run single up the Middle from Mr. Black:

Probably an injury in Biloxi, as Noah Campbell leaves in the top of the first inning after reaching on an error, replaced by Thomas Dillard.

UT Noah Campbell suffered a compound fracture of his pinky finger (glove hand).  Will miss some time but shouldn’t be an extended absence.  Whatever other threads that people think this post belongs please quote and copy.
