Message Board's impact on outcome of game

Seriously, if your life is so tied up in posting "GET WISE OUT OF THERE YOST!!!111!!" on an internet message board during a game, I don't know what to tell you at this point.

Please...these are just petty intrigues. I could just as easily say that if the mods' lives are tied up in what was a goofy and annoying gimmick, I don't know what to tell you. It's condecending, unnecessary, and not true. I can tell you that I certainly wasn't thinking or complaining about this anywhere but bf.net last night.

And I wish the "lack of respect" thing would get dropped. We all agree that a good job is done here by the mods, people were just naturally inclined to want to discuss a big game.

John Maine was on the Jim Rome show today, I think in order to negate the karma we shouldn't have... oh, nevermind.

Maybe forbid the use of a specific players name and said(unsaid) player has a huge game.

After Sunday, I felt that a majority of people on this board would benefit from an extra day off,

Do you really mean this? -- I am quite confident you do not have the wherewithal to understand what benefits the majority of the people on this site, or who needs a "day off".

Here are some of the things I need a day off from.

1.) Publishing Deadlines.

2.) Payroll taxes.

3.) UPS not being able to locate Texas, when it is clearly marked on the map.

4.) Climbing Health Premiums.

You will understand I hope that when I read mods complaining about the "stresses" involved with BFnet, I find it a little silly. I certainly can imagine that there are some headaches, but I think the perspective is quite skewed -- BFnet is downtime for me -- If I couldn't talk to some of my buddies about baseball, I would have mellonballed my eyes from their sockets a long time ago.

and it would give the mods a much needed break.

Wow -- A break from what? "much-needed"? c'mon dude.

If you want to say "I need a break" or "BFnet mods need" a break -- then in the future please present that as the primary reason for your actions.

It doesn't sit well to cloak your need for a break with some sort of act of benevolence.

As for the argument that we should "respect the wishes" of the posters who didn't want an IGT tonight, explain to me why they couldn't just stay away from the board for one night?

Yep.

Actually, that's not funny, that's disturbing. It was pretty disappointing people couldn't follow the rules for an evening.

Dude. -- I hear you -- But, it was a 13th inning walk off win -- people are going to be amped.

The problem with the IGT thread has been that it's troll heaven lately.

Trolls suck, but I'd rather have someone tell me that Brian has people spraying the site for Trolls/silverfish, than tell me I need a night off.

Yep -- and I think a lot of the mods are exemplary posters, and great examples/models for posting. Some of the mods rarely post anything of substance -- at least in regard to the Brewers, and I think it is important to remember that this site is content-driven, not mod-driven.

FTJ,

Have you been reading the IGTs lately? It's just bickering back and forth... it's another vent thread, maybe worse... I've been as guilty as anyone else calling out certain poster's for trollish behavior. I fail to see how 20 comments in a row about Weeks being terrible is necessary or valuable. The idea didn't come from the mods, it came from the public of the message board. The simple fact that some people think they are bigger than the site and should do whatever they want is infuriating. For example, I hate hiaku night, pink IGT night, and so on... therefore I don't participate. I don't like it, but I know other people on the board like those sorts of things, but I don't whine about it and I certainly don't crap on what other people have going on. The lack of an IGT was just another gimic suggested by the membership for the IGT, and once again, people do their own thing instead of participating properly. I'm definately someone who goes their own way, but there's independence, and then there's this, which I would qualify as classless and selfish.

I would ask, have you ever modded a forum or game of significant size? If you have, I find it hard to believe that there were times when you didn't find the job taxing and find the constant hassels sucking some of your enthusiam for what was going on. I came from an internet gaming background, after years of immaturity and selfishness and I was looking for a site with mature, intelligent conversation, and I just happened to get lucky and stumble across this site.

The site growing is a good thing, but there are problems associated with it, and regardless what we think, it's still Brian's site to do with what he wishes. There was a vision of what Brewerfan should be, and I have no problem with the people who take the responsibility of maintaining the content, enforcing that vision. A vision BTW, which is clearly laid out for all to see.

Sure -- I go through them each early AM, mining for information.

I fail to see how 20 comments in a row about Weeks being terrible is necessary or valuable.

I don't think it is valuable -- but if it is the emotion and reaction of 20 different people, it is what it is.

I don't think anyone in this thread feels this way.

I am pretty sure I have plenty of applicable experience.

For example, I hate hiaku night, pink IGT night, and so on... therefore I don't participate.

Sure -- Though in your example an option exists to participate or not.

If you have, I find it hard to believe that there were times when you didn't find the job taxing and find the constant hassles sucking some of your enthusiasm for what was going on.

Sure, as I stated before, I am quite positive headaches exist, however, those who accepted a commitment should fulfill it with minimal whining.

The site growing is a good thing, but there are problems associated with it, and regardless what we think, it's still Brian's site to do with what he wishes.

Agreed, but I am not sure what that has to do with the price in tea in China. I don't think people were complaining about what happened rather the explanation that was given.

Like a lot of people, I didn't click on the "No IGT" thread, because I thought it was something silly/superstitious that people were throwing around, and didn't consider it being taken seriously. Not being a person that goes in the IGT more than a few times a year, that didn't bother me, but for the "RULES" of posting, for even one night, to be "NO TALKING ABOUT THE BREWERS GAME" on Brewerfan.net seems a tad bit over the top, at least to me.

I'll pile on with everyone else, the mods jobs are not easy, and it's greatly appreciated that we have a site that's by and large free of the nonsense that goes on at ESPN, but this thing last night was, in my opinion, pretty over the top, and so were the reactions, from both sides of the fence.

But that doesn't make it our fault. There appeared to be a substantial amount of people in favor of the idea (and as stated, it wasn't our idea), so it happened. It's one day, we'll all get over it and move on eventually...

Quite frankly, the amount of discussion over an IGT being skipped for one night is quite impressive, and somewhat verbose.

Anyways, if there's an IGT, great, I have somewhere to post my thoughts to other people who actually "get" the game other than my friends who think Santos is still on the team, but big whoop, I can still do without and reminisce about the time Victor had a no-hitter through 3 1/3 and then gave up a three-run bomb to the Giants pitcher.

The point is, how do you know the fairy isn't a crazy glue sniffer? "Building model airplanes" says the little fairy, well, we're not buying it. He sneaks into your house once, that's all it takes. The next thing you know, there's money missing off the dresser and your daughter's knocked up, I seen it a hundred times.
