Message Board's impact on outcome of game

In all my years, Internet discussion has impacted the outcomes of a grand total of zero games. So now I come to the good old reliable vent thread after the Brewers get 2 on with nodody out and can't score, and I can't do that because its locked. C'mon. Can we get serious people?

The message board absolutely affects the outcome of games. On Saturday, I had pics for the countdown thread all prepped and ready to post. Look at what's happened since.

That’s the only thing Chicago’s good for: to tell people where Wisconsin is.

We are actually performing a complicated physiological experiment to see just how addicted to BF.net people are. I shouldn't say more, but it does involve some mind control and eventual world domination.

Some people may have suggested the no IGT/chat thing out of superstition, but not me. After Sunday, I felt that a majority of people on this board would benefit from an extra day off, and it would give the mods a much needed break. Unfortunately, people can't seem to respect this, and the Vent Thread was turned into a makeshift IGT; it was locked as a result.

i know its not my board, but i think locking people out is kinda wrong. Why can't there be an IGT? this whole thing superstition thing is going over board

As a moderator, I can say tonight has been heaven not having to worry about the petty bickering that has been going lately.

It seems like lately people have completely lost their ability to have a civil discussion and and retain a bit of a sense of humor.

BF.net has, in many ways, become like NY City in Ghostbusters 2. Except we don't have any good mood slim to spray on the Statue of Liberty.

Besides that, I am kinda stunned by how many people can't watch a Brewer game without BF.net. Especially when it's only ONE game.

It has nothing to do with superstition- there was a ~70 post thread requesting no IGT or chat tonight, the staff liked the idea as well, and here we are.

Of course if they win and there's no IGT until they lose again, THEN it's superstition. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/smile.gif

it might be a little break, but things aren't going to change. Not this year anyway

All the better reason for giving the mods a bit of a respite. If people can't or won't become more civilized, a little break does wonders for a persons sanity, if only for that night.

no offense but nobody is making you be a mod. i respect the things you guys and lady do, but this is a brewers message board and a very important and historic game was going on tonight. Locking everyone out isn't and IMO for what its worth wasn't the right thing to do. Thats just my opinion, and I know I'm just another poster on the board. With that said, I've said my peace and you all have a great night

I'm cool with whatever is happening either way, but I think this is kind of a bogus statement. It is always asked by you guys for us to show respect to others, yet you have the ability to determine whether or not I would benefit from a day off? Rather than trying to limit literally hundreds of peoples interest in tonights game, wouldn't it just be easier for who ever wanted to take a break to just stay away? Again, I'm down with whatever the going rate is, I just think locking threads, and telling people what they can/cannot do is not the right way to go about it.

This place for a long time was a refuge from the idiocy of ESPN, etc.

They still do a very good job keeping things intelligent and fresh around here, but this kind of stuff is nearly as frustrating as dealing with cro-mags elsewhere.

Amen. I appreciate BF.net and the hard work that goes into it but the moderators on this board are childish to say the least. How often do you go to a sports message board that forbids speaking about the game as it happens. You can't say anything the mods disagree with and heaven help you if you discuss something that already has a thread from May.

If you guys are thinking that you're being apart of the IGT is going to impact the game, then I'm glad you are taking an extra day off for sanity reasons... but seriously if they win this one in extras no IGT's ever again.

I'm just not sure what the mods were or are expecting with this...people come here for inteklligent discussion about the Brewers, with the IGTs being a big draw. Of course people are going to want to discuss a big, exciting game in a pennant race. It's not a question of "respect." Most everyone here agrees a good job is done here.

Beyond that, it seems like every other person here is "staff," so why don't you guys do shifts if you need the night off? As someone who lingers in 98% of the IGTs, I'd say the vast majority of people here are very good at self-policing, and those that do bicker get dealt with pretty quickly and by a multitude (see the Prince of Roy thing in the Gagne trade thread--it was a mod dogpile). It can't be all THAT difficult. If it is, mod me, I'm willing to help.

As for the "No IGT" thread, if I had thought it was going to be taken seriously, I would've voiced my opinion that it was a terrible idea. It was unfathomable to me that bf.net would actually have no IGT.

That's patently false, and I challenge you to prove any one of those assertions.

This is how I feel. I completely respect and appreciate the work the mods do, as it is a big part of what makes this site desireable, but in my opinion the decision about tonight's game was a pretty silly one, and is a real disservice to the site and the work you do.

I admit I never even read the "No IGT" thread because I thought it was a bad idea that would not be taken seriously. Apparently I should have put my .02 in. If the mods wanted/needed a night off, just say so, and don't call it something else. I assure you everyone would understand and appreciate that position.

Chatting/talking about what is and has been an unbelieveable game tonight is what I thought this site was supposed to be about! Yet, a few decided that all needed a break.

The site is community driven, drawing from the knowledge and enthusiasm of the die-hard fans of the club.

Ironically, this is what Stalin said to his detractors. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif

Oh by the way, Brewers win. God bless you Geoff.
