Brewers acquire Victor Caratini

Feliciano has 128 Plate appearances above High A ball plus he has missed huge chunks of the 2018 and 2021 seasons. He is not ready for the big leagues. Then you add in the fact Severino isn't post season eligible, a move like this had to be made. Very important tidbit if it is true Caratini can be optioned to the minors.

I like this pick up. Cost them very little. I think I saw one service had Howell rated as our 29th best prospect with a pretty bad strikeout rate. Versatile yes, but plenty of other prospects are ahead of him.  I think the Brewers might just release Severino after his return. Too bad I thought he had a great camp.

Love the trades, Caratini being a switch hitter allows a platoon with Narvaez and will let the team give Narvaez regular rest when facing a bunch of rightness in a row. Also it will give us a seemingly decent platoon next year with Caratini/Severing or Feliciano if Narvaez has a good year and out prices us from keeping him. Jackson gives enough upside with the power to be the at the ready catcher in the minors. If Jackson could even hit .225+ in the majors and our catching staff works their magic defensively he could be a super interesting piece.

Howell and Cantrelle have a little upside as maybe utility guys but are far from the majors and have major flaws.

I would say A- on the Caratini deal and B+ for Jackson.

they did give up an interesting prospect but his ceiling was probably a Pablo Reyes type guy. This was far superior to going internal or FA options though, so bravo to Stearns. As i said to those freaking out, you have to wait for the corresponding move,

It would have been nice if they could have kept Sullivan, then if Narvaez has to go on the IL Caratini/Sullivan could probably do a decent job for a while. Not a fan of Jackson but understand the need to have a catcher with options if they don't think Feliciano is ready or don't want him sitting on the bench.

I don't see anyone freaking out.  This is just one of those deals that is kind of meh, but had to happen if Feliciano isn't deemed ready.

Severino's situation really had an effect on a lot of moves and people, kind of pissed at him, but oh well.

Good move.  Feliciano isn't going to develop spending half the season catching once a week coming off pretty much a lost season due to injuries.

I am a nobody so my opinion is trash, but I agree. I think folks would be surprised how many moves are made within an organization simply to protect the development of the teams Top 20 prospects, both on the MLB and MiLB levels.

If a team acquires a AA 2B who has a career .206 BA, the fans lose their minds because this guy is a nobody and will never sniff the big leagues... In reality, I don't think the parent club cares if he hits .065 or .465. They just don't want to move the prospect in A ball too fast so this guy is a warm body that can cover the position for 3 months. Things like that.

So in this case, we lose our backup catcher and we need Mario to get playing time at the AAA level so move(s) needed to be made. Had to fix the situation. Well done.
