Listening to the above recent Jeff Hem interviews I learned Jon Singleton squats five days a week. Good gracious. We call him 'Big Jon' for a reason, folks. Corey Ray is dealing with another nagging day-to-day injury. Tyler Herb was a great interview - it's been a real joy watching him grow and pitch this year. Yes, even at age 30, he is still maturing and growing as a pitcher. He gives a very good interview - he's open, eloquent, experienced. His interview was a real pleasure.

Via Jeff Hem's Blog - The four pre-game interviews from the recent 2-4 series loss at Home versus 'The Classies' Triple-A club in Memphis. Featured: Rick Sweet, Hobie Harris (who reflects on the Brewers re-acquiring his good friend and high school teammate Matt Lipka) Tyler White, and Brian Navarreto.

Highlights include: Manager Rick Sweet again touting his coveted SS in Brice Turang - including a big-time nod of approval from his friend and World Series winning former manager Bruce Bochy; Hobie talking about his high school football days; Tyler White discussing pitching to Mannie Machado and Pedro Alvarez (!!); and Brian Navarreto discussing his season of opportunistic play.

As always, via Jeff Hem's Blog. I can affirm, these conversations are just always fantastic looks into the make-up of these young players. I've listened to each and every post-series round of interviews and this week's, like so many others (albeit only three interviews), does not disappoint. We'll get some convos in here that occurred throughout last week's road series in Jacksonville.

Featured: the return and reflections of OF Matt Lipka, the thoughts of journeyman AAAA pitcher extraordinaire Josh Lindbolm, and manager Rick Sweet who opines on Frelick's scorching start amongst other club-related things.

And, after a 4-2 series victory on the road in Durham...you guessed it: post-series interviews via Jeff Hem's Blog

On the docket for this round: manager Rick Sweet (as per usual - always a good interview), INF Patrick Dorrian (who is getting more PT of late and is swinging a fairly hot bat), RHP Cam Robinson (his first interview since his promotion to Triple-A), and C Brian Navarreto. Check these out!

And actually, a bit of a theme through several of these interviews. Jeff interviews Charlotte Broadcaster Matt Swierad to kick off the week-long series. Through the All-Star Break, Charlotte was in full use of the Automated Ball/Strike system (ABS), and while Swierad was a fan, the conversation really gets interesting when discussing the post-All Star game challenge system of balls and strikes in which the batter, pitcher, or catcher initiates the challenge (not the bench). It becomes engaging for the fans as within 10-15 seconds there is a scoreboard display and even the Law and Order theme as fans watch to see if the replay confers touching any part of the online strike zone box. Tom Flanagan and Rick Sweet also discuss the challenge system to some extent and how highly they thought of it.

Seems as though the challenge system still would allow pitch framers to excel behind the plate and would be a better option than a full blown "robot ump".

Good stuff. Do listen in if you can.

Via Jeff Hem's Blog - The pre-game interviews from last week's home series vs. Jacksonville -

"Right-hander Marcus Walden on his unique diet of largely steak and ice cream, catcher Mario Feliciano on Roberto Clemente Day across baseball, hitting coach Al LeBoeuf on the first month and a half at Triple-A for Joey Wiemer and Sal Frelick and the ball/strike challenge system the Sounds saw last week in Charlotte, lefty Robert Gasser on his first few starts with the Sounds and the August 1 trade that brought him to the Brewers, and manager Rick Sweet on the team’s solid series against Jacksonville and the team’s annual awards that were given out Saturday night (Brice Turang, MVP; Caleb Boushley, Pitcher of the Year; Jon Singleton, Fan Favorite; Zack Brown, Community MVP)."
