Spring Training Games Thread - 2022

Joseph Zarr

Haha, I totally got burned by the pitcher coming back in after getting taken out thing the other day.

Had the game on in the background & Houser was pitching, looked up & was like “whoa, Abner Uribe on the mound, awesome”, then next time I noticed the game Houser was pitching again.

Thought I dreamt up that whole Abner interlude or something.

My current Emo-Spring Training experience revolves around 2 of my bullpen darlings: JC Mejia and Jake Cousins. I really want them to succeed at the MLB Level. I believe they have the stuff. And, I am admittedly in a Defcon 1.5 state. My donkey ears are mildly erect. LOL. I find it utterly hilarious that I really couldn't care less how a single other Brewer performs this ST, but when Jake and JC give up runs I'm hitting the 02 tank. ?

I might be remembering incorrectly but don’t pitcher’s normally take longer to get into a groove in spring training?  I thought this is why they report earlier with catchers so they can ramp up.

Lauer appears to have taken a page from the most recent Woodruff start. Yowza. Good stuff. We were a dominant Spring Training pitching staff for those first 2 games. I will look back fondly on that 2 game run and share it with my grandchildren.

Hiura has had an excellent Spring so that's a meaningless plus in the grand scheme of things.

I'm just ready for the regular season. One more week, gents. One more week.

Yep the allure of Spring Training has faded for me. It was great to watch meaningless baseball at first but now I'm ready for games to actually count. It's been proven time and time again Spring Training stats are mostly meaningless so I can't even get myself to care whose played well or not

That's pretty much how it goes for me every year.  I get excited for pitchers and catchers reporting.  Then day of first spring training game I get super excited because baseball is back, but I lose interest after a few innings because it's "fake" baseball because the results don't matter and then I start counting the days till opening day.  Though I'll still keep an eye on box scores.

Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."

In case we'd forgotten. Pina is no longer on the team. Severino is working with these Stud Pitchers of ours for the first time.  I think there's going to be some adjustment period. Never-mind that they have had a shorter time working together at this point than normally to this point.  When the ST games started and I seen 3 or 3+IP by starters right away I was like whoa! We are exceeding 2IP Starts already? Forgetting that the ramp up time is reduced.  Seen Something on Degrom needing something checked or sore. It's going to be a brutal season for Starting Pitchers. A big reason I'm good on what they have done. If we make the season without 3 or more pitchers that start games for us not needing the 60day DL or  season ending DL Ill be amazed.

The pitchers would have been throwing through the lockout.  They are professionals, they know how to condition their arm.  I'm sure when they were making 2-3 inning starts right away, it's because that is where they were in their program.  Major league teams aren't going to rush guys innings.

I’m ignoring the poor outings from the starting pitchers for now,  but I am concerned that the Brewers offense is going to pick up where it left off last September and October.

At the top of the list is that Yelich looks exactly like the 20 and 21 version. Nothing but weak choppers to the right side and lazy fly balls and loopers, even on his hits.

Urias’ injury doesn’t help and now Adames left today with what was hopefully a minor leg strain but still not what you want to see. Cain is likely to be a drag on the lineup too.

Hopefully the pitchers will round into form when the games count because runs may be hard to come by.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

I don’t know how any fan of this team can be anything other than concerned about the lineup especially if Yelich is going to be bad. After last season it was obvious they needed a big time hitter and the Renfroe plus McCutchen acquisitions were not even close to good enough.

Good April Fools performance. 5-3 victory over those men down there in Wrigleyville Luis Perdomo and Miguel Sanchez start it off with 2 scoreless apiece. Rowdy with a ding dong and 2-3 at the plate. Severino with a 2nd HR of his spring. Yelich with a rbi - he closes the Spring with a .280 BA. Let's get rested, ready, and primed to take Series 1 in Wrigley.
