Softball Practice Sunday

Ideally we have 12 participants this Sunday...get a little 6 on 6 going. That way we could simulate game conditions with running bases and throwing to bases. With 6 per side we could have a pitcher, 1st baseman to throw to, a SS, a 3rd and two OF. We would just call anything hit to the right of 2nd an out.

Even 10 would work. If we can only pull off 5 on 5, you just throw to the pitcher instead of 1st.

Please, please let us have 12 this Sunday.

Well that sucks. Oh, well, I'll just have to try to pull everything. I need to leave by about 1:30. How long did you plan on practicing?

Are we going to try and find a grass infield, or are we practicing at the same field as last week?

Is our game field a grass infield?

The satellite imaging posted in the other thread seems to show it's grass infields at Sijan. I'm slightly concerned about that, but not enough to suggest we should risk experimenting with a new location for our final practice. Also, the hardball diamond at HC Park has a grass infield, so it would be possible for infielders to head over there to field some grounders if desired. I'm not sure how nervous I should be about fielding grounders with a grass/dirt transition when most of our practices have been all dirt.

I really think the first baseman is important to get our timing down. My opinion: if we get 11, we have 5 on 5 with an all-time pitcher. If we have 10, I say we still field 6, with just 4 people batting. Heck, even if we only have 9, I'd still like to try to field 6 with 3-person batting squads.

I also think if there's a runner on first and there are guys on the hitting squad just waiting to bat, one of them should come out and field second base so the left side of the infield can go to second to get the force or possibly turn two.

I see where you're coming from, I also see myself as someone who's likely to spray hits to the right ... especially outside pitches. But I guess we just have to see how many people we get there and make due. Maybe we can get creative and employ an "opposite-field only" rule for some of the innings?

I think this practice is going to be fun!! And the weather looks good!

BTW, hopefully a good number of softball players will be at Long Wong's on saturday night. We can probably kick around a few ideas then.

We could do three teams of 4 each. One team bats, two teams combine to field.

That would also be great. If we can get 12 people to show up, I think we should definitely consider it. Might be a big "if" though....

Hey guys, long time lurker, first time poster. I know I'm not on the team, but if your looking for another guy to help play a simulated game on Sunday, I would be more than happy to help. I live not too far from where the practice is held. I understand if you wanna try to keep your secrets from the rest of the league, just thought I would throw it out there. Either way-good luck this year!
