Does the new CBA ban the shift this year or next year?

I would appreciate links to articles post new CBA

"As part of the agreement, a Joint Competition Committee will be formed comprised of four active players, six members appointed by MLB and one umpire. Beginning in 2023, the committee will be tasked with adopting changes to playing rules such as a pitch clock, base size, defensive positioning and automatic ball/strike zone."

Check back in 2023, I guess.

Which side is actually in favor of this? Seems like the owners but I can't say for sure.

I get the feeling owners pushed for this but players weren't really against it, either.

I think it's something we don't see nearly enough in today's game (or the world in general): two sides agreeing because something is a good idea instead of opposing something because the other side likes it.

I like the runner on 2B rule. I think it adds intensity to extra innings and games finish faster saving bullpen arms.

I don't mind that the league has gone back to the standard rule but if they decide to revisit the runner on 2nd rule I'm good with that.

If you already have a "computer" tracking every pitch why bother with challenges? Just let it handle everything. The solution to this is so simple and just like everything MLB does they are making it so complicated.

I think this has more to do with a compromise with the umpire union.  The umpires will still be able to call balls and strikes but if a player or coach challenges the called strike or ball it can be reviewed by the computer which will then correct the call or it will stand.

Supposedly this review takes about five seconds to complete.  I preferred the automation system telling the umpire if it was a ball or a strike.  But I can see why the union wouldn't want to give up something like this.
