Kris Bryant clearly cares about money only and zero about winning. Absolutely nothing wrong with that, but that is very very clear with this deal.

Given what the Cubs pulled on him to start his career, it's not surprising he's going to chase dollars above all else.

And another example why we are lucky to have the tag team champions of the world on our side: Baron Von Attanasio and David "the budget Crusher" Stearns. (So I'm dating myself, not like romantically, but like age)

Edit: that's the best I could come up with the Mama's and the Papa's Turn, Turn, Turn is playing in my head, but with Churn, Churn, Churn to describe the Reds moves so far.

I have to think that there are some buyouts or escape clauses after a year or two.  I have to think Bryant is looking for something in a year or two when the market or the new CBA has had some time to mature and he can better dictate where he wants to go.   There was also a bit of inpatience in him to sign so he can get to playing.

I wonder if Story will be the next to fall.  I am thinking Story to the Twins.  I am still unsure where Castellanos will land as there are exactly 0 rumors on where he may land.  Kind of odd but I wouldn't be surprised if Stearns considers Castellanos on a 1-year deal if no one is going after him similar to Grandal.

I sort of wonder if Bryant had another offer within $50 million of this one? With the injuries over the past couple of years he’s seen his power tail-off a bit. I wouldn’t be surprised if other teams models project him to age poorly. I saw Dan Szymborski mention that ZiPS pegs him for significant regression, and actually was higher on Eric Hosmer at the time of his FA signing than it is on Bryant now. Still, that gamble might make sense for a team with money to spend that’s nearing or within a competitive window. In the Rockies case even if Bryant has a few more good years in him, it’s unlikely to come during a period in which they are truly relevant.

Not just “at Night” anymore.
