homer

Call me a homer but I find it hard to believe there aren’t some teams out there who aren’t intrigued with some of our prospects…guys like Mitchell, Ashby, Turang, and Small are all close to the majors. We certainly don’t have the best system but it’s not completely devoid of any talent either.

Yea I agree, we have some damn nice prospects at the top of our system.

I think this is true, however, I doubt the front office wants to leave the cupboards completely bare by trading away the few guys we have either.

This is still a really really good team. With more playoff teams, we have a very good chance of making the playoffs already and once you're in anything can happen.

It's probably wise to hold onto our bigger chips for the time being and maybe reassess how things are going at the trade deadline. That said, in the meantime I think they could still swing a smaller deal or two for guys like Luke Voit without giving up any of our top prospects.

Man this is just frustrating seeing all these other contending teams making big moves, while we just add Cutch and Renfroe.

Give me Castellanos, Voit, Davis, Conforto or Soler and I'll shut the hell up.

Phillies being the Phillies, throw a bunch of money at a Free Agent just to come in 3rd.

Freeman to the Red Sox or Dodgers? Any other big money options? Maybe the Padres so they can watch Hosmer be replacement level as a DH?

Voit would be a perfect fit at the right price, but don't know which of our prospects would tempt the Yankees that we would be OK trading.

Still little to no chatter surrounding Bryant or Castellanos. Maybe we get lucky and get one of these guys on a short term deal.

I read Colorado was looking at Bryant, not sure if thats true or not

That is the latest.

There's been NO news on Castellanos since lockout ended, other then Jeter really wanted to add him.

But it is bad business at this point unless the money makes sense. The Brewers are the favorites in the Central by a good margin. The rest of the division outside of StL is confused. So while 'anything can happen' is always true, if all things are equal we will be playoff bound this year and it makes much more sense to make a deadline deal or two to fill in holes that arise during the season rather then overreach right now for a piece you think you need but will handcuff you in the future, UNLESS the deal makes sense. There's no reason to give Castellanos a 5yr, $140mil deal right now or whatever it is he is asking for. Now if in 3 weeks you can get him on a 2 yr, $48mil... then great. But more bad business is done right now around baseball than good business. I think both Mark and David are good businessman, so the relative quiet from the Brewers during the initial rush of FA is typically a good sign.

5-years $85m sounds like something the Brewers should have been interested in on Suzuki.  Maybe there wasn't any interest on Suzuki's side.

To be fair it's closer to 5/100 with the posting fee. It's hard to tell cause if he hits like he did in Japan that'll be a steal for the Cubs but we've also seen alot of international players come over and struggle in MLB

The Reds just acquired Mike Minor from the Royals.

I'm just wondering what they are up to. I mean, they just gave up Wade Miley - who's due $10M this year. Miley was good last year - 3.36 ERA, 160+ IP. And now they trade for Minor - who's due $7.3M. Minor had a 5.00+ ERA last year (and 2020).

Like I said - why?

It must be devastating to be a Reds fan right now. Their owner is one of the few who voted against the signed agreement and this almost seems like an 'ef you' type of fire sale. The NL Central isn't a hard division comparatively this year... this deconstruction is heartbreaking for the fans there.

Yeah, we're really spoiled right now with Stearns and Antannasio. Savvy and they want to be competitive.

Of all the hitters to have come from Japan, who would have been worth that? Ichiro, Hideki Matsui, and Ohtahi would be about it. Maybe he's worth that. Maybe he's a steal. Just as likely he comes no where close to living up to the contract and is simply an average player at best.
