I don't get it right now, but this team regularly zigs when everyone is thinking zag, so who knows?

No idea he hit 27 bombs last year... I like that... But I would rather have him in CF and sign someone like Schwarber or Soler to be our DH.

This is a team that values versatility and baserunning. McCutchen can play all 3 OF positions, and will likely come much cheaper than Soler. Schwarber is going to sign a huge deal, can't play D, and is going to strike out a ton while hitting .220.

Not really a transaction for the hot tub aside from the fact it might be prescribed as part of rehabbing the injury, but it sounds like Tatis is out until AS Break time or so with a fractured wrist.  Not a great start for an organization that's under a good amount of pressure to win now with all the contract dollars shelled out and trade capital shipped away in recent years.  Meanwhile the Dodgers just print more $$ to maintain a super team.

I saw the as well. While it certainly doesn't help, with 12 team postseason and how much talent that team has...there shouldn't be any real concern about that team making the postseason. And Tatis should be recovered by this injury well before September.

Oh right I know... But Tyrone Taylor is our McCutchen right now?? If we sign him, a real head scratcher to me for right now... Guess we'll see how things shake out with our final roster, maybe will make sense then.

I don’t

He has played almost exclusively left field the last few years & he's a better defender than Yelich at this point. Not that Yelich will never play the field but Yelich would be our 5th best defensive outfielder

I think McCutcheon is a distressed asset (in today's market) so it makes a lot of sense that the Brewers (who seem to look for the good deals in FA) are going after him.  As other's have said, we need a DH and if the numbers are right he could be a very good addition.

I should add that I hope this wouldn't cut into Taylor's playing time (I don't think it would), but I really would like to see what the kid can do given the chance at near full-time ABs.

Versatile piece at a discount, sounds like that's our guy!  I wasn't expecting much for signings when it came to this offseason so I can't say I'm disappointed.  I'm definitely not excited but I won't complain at this point.  Is he a good clubhouse guy too?

IF he is our DH, I sure hope he's closer to his career line .283/.373/.476/.849 hitter than what he was in 2021 .222/.334/.444./.778.

With our pitching staff, we need a legit hitter to go with Yelich, Adames, Renfroe, Wong, Urias.

I hear you, but I am sure with the final arbitration numbers and maybe a few small additions that Stearns is getting near his salary budget for the start of the season.  I am surprised they even have money to toss at McCutcheon as I figured they would see how Yelich and Hiura start out before looking for offensive upgrades across the roster.  Stearns did a great job last season adding Adames "mid" year so I think they will be a little conservative spending until they have a clear need.

If he's added, it'd be to help against lefties, where he's been dominant and would help in the OF/DH mix...

2019-21 vs LHP:

Last year he was even more dominant against lefties, posting a .293/.405/.622/1.027 line

The difference is an .850 OPS hitter will cost 18 million+, McCutchen probably costs 10 or less

Player A vs lefties:

Career: .954 OPS

2021: 1.027

Player B vs righties:

Career: .780

2021: .842

Any idea who we are looking at? Neither player would break the bank and be "splashy" but combined they would be a decent DH platoon.
