To close the loop on what I said above re: Wyatt. Packers say the same thing:

Thanks for posting. That's seems to be what others have said. Don't like the incidents - and it's a red flag - but the team seems okay with the guy.

Wow, I actually got something right. Now I just have to hope Tom lasts that long.

I am far more surprised that they drafted an inside linebacker than I am that they went defense-defense the way the board fell.

Hey, they violated age too! You nailed it!

I think the one thing we can bring to the whole draft discussion 'argument' is the perspective of sample sizes. I always scoff when the Packer twitterverse pundits are grabbing at extremely small sample sizes to vindicate Packer draft criteria. The sample size is just too small.

I think what we can say, however, is they are generally really good at finding day 2 WR's and Day 3 OL. That' really all I think I can say.

Yeah, I think it's more temper flare ups from the looks of it. A couple of the police reports are publicly available. It's riff-raff. It's also family stuff. And, then there's also aspects of youth. He'll be in a good place in Green Bay and he's also a small town young man. I think he's going to fit in extremely well.

That's the one I was talking about. That's the reason the only pick I predicted was a fourth-rounder. By the time you're shown to be right or wrong, most people won't even notice.

gonna be weird having an elite defense

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

It's going to be incredible. The best part of it, which I really haven't seen anyone discussing lately, is it prepares the Packers for the possibility A-Rod leaves next season. A-Rod leaves? J-Love leads and you seriously commit to the run and extremely motion oriented quick route pass game and you know you have an elite defense to back you up regardless.

Yep, they are prepping for life after Rodgers. Love isn't going anywhere. This is going to be a defense-heavy veteran QB-led squad reminiscent of the Broncos Super Bowl 50 team. Gonna be pretty funny when Rodgers makes someone like Malik Taylor look like a superstar.

Happy Day 2 everyone! Feels like another big day for Green Bay after a nice first round last night.

A lot of talent on the board, a lot of capital to move around if they want to. Wonder if the trade market will heat up today as teams position themselves for tonight and/or turn to vet trades to fill holes now.

People talking about Walker having some helium weren't lying. He was shooting up the mocks the last few weeks.:

Assuming the slide is due to off field stuff:

Read some online reaction this morning. It seems that the grade for the packers picks is centered on who (or what) they didn't take (any WR) vs what they did take. I think if they would have taken any WR the would have been graded higher than what they got for Walker or Wyatt.

Today the player i really want is Alec Pierce

Any time a draft goes on a run of players at a certain position in Round 1, you don't want to be on the end of that big run and wind up reaching - the better option is to identify what that run opens up in terms of talent at other positions falling into your lap.  That's exactly what the Packers did last night.

It wouldn't surprise me if GB winds up signing for a veteran WR and even using draft picks today to trade for an impact veteran WR.  After Brown got dealt yesterday, there are still several wideouts looking to be traded/paid that GB could go after, too.

You don't have to be a 1st round pick to wind up being a great wide receiver in the NFL - the Packers of all teams know that all too well.  Thinking there's going to be a day 2 pick that knows how to run some pass patterns who will wind up being selected tonight.

As of this morning, GB's defense doesn't have a weak spot.

The AJ Brown trade and Washington's big reach for Dotson probably hosed any chance of GB getting a receiver.

Looking to the rest of the draft, the Packers likely will pick from these positions:

  • WR
  • OL
  • Safety
  • TE
  • Edge

They have quick a few picks to get it done and I would be very surprised if they didn't consolidate some of their 9 remaining picks to move up in spots.

Sign me up for at least one of the following in the 2nd round: Pickens, Watson, or Pierce and the other pick from Ebiketie, Pitre, Raimann

Yeah, PFF started their grade (Good) on Wyatt by commenting on their WR/1st round history then proceed to grade Wyatt as the best IDL on the board above everyone else, but the Packers get a "good".  LOL.  PFF users picked Skyy Moore.  Are they the equivalent of baseball's "Chicks dig the long ball" (sure, Moore is more a slot guy, but WR, WR, WR, WR ooh they really rock!)

If they get one of Pierce, Tolbert or Perkins in round 2 I will be happy.  We need depth at EDGE and I am guessing that would be the other pick in round 2 if they take a WR (IF?). Pitre would be nice too and he might be available when the Packers pick. If they don't use a 4th round pick to move up in 2 or 3 I am guessing TE in 3 then OT's/fill in EDGE/S depending on what has already been picked in 4  Walker had some reps at EDGE last year (IIRC) so it may be less of a need for an EDGE right now (They might go S since Amos is in his last year and Savage looked meh last year). Also, someone like Tyquan Thornton could be their developmental WR they take later to complement a RD 2 pick.
