Not sure why this bothers you.

People keep quoting me, I'm simply replying back. Is that not what this place is for? Plus it's always the same people.

There are a few longtime posters and moderators here who think they have a monopoly on thought. If you don't share their view they let you know about it. Heaven forbid you reply back and explain your viewpoint. Despite being an optimist myself, I'm starting to sympathize with the pessimists who get shut down by these same people.

Folks, I'm going to ask now to cut the petty crap out. We don't need people parsing each others posts word for word, we don't need people acting offended anytime someone questions them, we don't need people having to 'prove' their point.

If you believe something or want to correct something or want to offer a different point of view - say it - then move on. We don't need people arguing about semantics or whatever. And we certainly don't need it post after post after post. Logging off the computer and saying you 'won' an argument is not what this should be about.

Ted Thompson has a well-documented history of using official visits as smokescreens.  He never took a guy in the first three rounds that he brought in for a visit.

Brian Gutekunst is a different story.

Yeah, their only viable backup option on the roster at center is Myers with Jenkins hurt and Patrick’s versatility now in Chicago.

The Packers have three centers currently on the roster - Myers, Jake Hanson, and Michael Menet.  They kept Hanson around all of last year and brought back Menet on a futures contract for a reason.

Menet was a guy I was *this* close to putting in my mock for the Packers last year.  He might have been a late round backup plan if Myers was gone before they picked.

One thing people can do is if they are having a problem with someone - a moderator or whom ever - please drop me or any other mod you are comfortable with a message and we will look into the problem.

I can't promise you a response you'll want to hear - but it will be discussed.

Thank you. I appreciate it.

With the Watkins signing the team won't be handcuffed on not selecting a shorter stature Below 6ft WR in the draft. So if the WRs they wanted are selected you maybe get that #2-slot who can add to special teams returns. It looks like half the WRs in this draft are below 6feet and 5 of top typical 7 are over 6feet where all 5 may be picked before GB has their chance..

Well, perhaps we simply have different definitions of 'viable options'. Myers and two late-round guys that were waived out of camp their rookie seasons and aren't anything close to locks to make the initial roster doesn't seem like the best plan for depth. I'd think the Packers would be very interested in the versatility of a guy like Johnson who could immediately start inside if they want him to and can likely cover all of the line positions if they need him to.

Been reading some interesting takes on WR Christian Watson. Some analysts put him in the 1st round - others in the 3rd. Lots of opinions. Tons of talent - but a work in progress. Do the Packers take a guy who dropped 12% of his passes last year? Gotta love the workout numbers. Has all the attributes you'd want in a field stretching WR. Could possibly help as a returner as well. Has had some injuries. Fascinating player.

Lucas Patrick wasn't drafted and was waived out of his first camp with Green Bay in 2016.

Hanson was waived/cut from his first camp in 2020 (keeping in mind the limited camp and practice time they had that year because of COVID), but was on the 53-man roster all of 2021.

Watching mocks lately and something became apparent.  People who are streaming mocks within their own group are saying things multiple times of "I went with so and so the last time we did this. I want to do something different this time"  And suddenly a guy falls beyond 10 or in to the 20s while you hear the next or 2nd to select say that ruined their selection and they wouldn't go for that guy who should have been selected due to not having the need.

Opens up some perspective on mocks 3.0 and beyond being more wrong most likely than the first 2 mocks because the decision to not select who they would/should.

Anyway GB is sitting in a great position to select the dropping player with 22 for say 10-16 expected and 28 for 15-21 expected falling. Then trading up in 2nd to take a 1st rd talent that is falling towards 40.  So many multiples at the positions of need in the top 50 ranking.  It'd be a blunder to not walk away with a B+ or higher grade when draft is done.

If they don’t take a WR in the 1st, I will be disappointed. It’s a talent rich one and they seem to work out more often than they don’t. I think Olave is my first choice, Williams #2, Burks #3, Watson #4 of the guys that could be around at 22. I wouldn’t be surprised if the pick is Raimann at 28. To me that’s a very good 1st round.

I'm holding out hope that Olave falls to them at 22.  If they grab Raimann at 28, I'll consider that an excellent practically A+ first round.

After trading Adams and (so far) only grabbing Watkins, they've pretty much put themselves in the position of absolutely NEEDING to draft a WR in round one, and you hate having to do that.  Those are the drafts when you see trades and runs on positions, and suddenly you end up holding the bag.

I know the whole "draft the best player available" philosophy, but with what the Pack has at WR right now, they've put themselves in a position where the best player available REALLY needs to be a WR.

I think they need to get a WR in the first 2 rounds, not necessarily in the first. If there Kyle Hamilton starts slipping (he has been in some mocks), I wouldn't be shocked if we moved up and got him.

That's sort of what I mean with my last post.  People not wanting to mock Kyle Hamilton early because they've done that and want some different content.  Drake London has started becoming the WR1A with Wilson looking at mocks and in the top 6-8!  It's like refusing to go with best likely drafted and taking the #1 on the board for the teams 2nd need vs their highest need with a more likely higher up the board overall player.   Seen Malik Willis not even drafted in 1st round while the other 3 QBs that make up the consensus top 4 were.

Crystal Lava (seriously Closed Captioned every time)  is more and more available in mocks for GB. (London effect)  Seen Watson going to the Jets at 4 one time.

Will say Wilson looks like a skinny HS kid on tape.  Beyond slender!  I'd question withstanding the hits forthcoming if the #1WR without bulking up some.

Thinking there needs to be some thought on Pickens since he went up against Stokes.  The scouting would certainly have some notes taken down considering they took Stokes in 1st round.

The draft is hard to predict right now due to the weirdness with QBs. One one hand, you'll see three QBs in the first round. On the other, you see none.

Regarding WRs, not a lot of talk about Jahan Dotson. Lacks the height/size you want - but the guy is pretty much NFL ready. He's got speed, runs good routes and good hands. He could probably step right in and start. I think he'd be a good pick at #28.

This is an example of why I put little to no stock in the draft simulators.  They're fun, but I just came away with the following doing nothing but trading down and if this happens it will be unbelievable.

#22 - Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas
#37 - Devonte Wyatt, DT, Georgia
#59 - Jalen Pitre, S, Baylor
#60 - Cameron Thomas, Edge, San Diego State
#78 - Alec Pierce, WR, Cincinnati
#91 - Zyon McCollum, CB, Sam Houston State
#96 - Jeremy Ruckert, TE, Ohio State
#99 - Channing Tindall, LB, Georgia
#132 - Zach Thomas, OT, San Diego State
#170 - Kellen Diesch, OT, Arizona State
#195 - Tanner Conner, WR/H-Back, Idaho State
#210 - Luke Goedeke, G/T, Central Michigan
#214 - Eyioma Uwazurike, DT, Iowa State
#228 - Scott Patchan, Edge, Colorado State

I have a hunch they are going to try and trade up in the 1st. If not, I hope they trade down from 28 at least. From what I've read the difference this year from #15 to #60 is negligible.

There was a reason I wasn't high on Dotson so I went back and looked at his writeups and found why I had concerns about Olave.  Both Dotson and Olave have huge drops in their Grades on PFF when in "Man Coverage".  They both go from high 80s overall Grade to high 60s when vs "Man Coverage" and they are two of the top receivers with a huge drop (most don't have a big drop in "Man Coverage").  Maybe it's not that big of a deal, but it makes me wonder if they will struggle at times in the NFL.

I don’t remember Thompson specifically not drafting players early who he brought in for visits so much as he brought in players who no team was going to draft early. Thompson seemed to view the visits as being most useful as a recruiting tool for potential undrafted free agents.

Ben Fennel and Brian Baldinger, respectively, have me feeling pretty rosy on Alec Pierce as a serious candidate for a Packer draft pick. It seems he's been routinely discussed as an early to mid Day 2 pick in the draft process from my limited exposure. Anyone else have any thoughts here?

Agreed on the qb's. It seems Willis and Pickett are locks and then there's a whole lot of mystery. The general consensus I've seen is maybe Willis would have fit into the tail end of last year's Top 5 qb's overall. Not really a good year to need a QB. I think what's even more interesting is Ridder's late ascent. A lot of teams apparently have him graded out as a Rd. 1 prospect this year. I sure hope he sneaks in there before 28.

I'd keep an eye out on this name:

Marcus Jones, CB, Houston
Height: 5-8. Weight: 185. Arm: 28.88. Hand: 8.88.
Projected 40 Time: 4.50.
Projected Round (2022): 3-5

So Jones reads as the interest by teams due to his punt and kickoff return prowess.  Size wise at CB WalterFootball classifies him as strictly a Slot WR cover.  What I'm reading here is check, check, and check what Green Bay could use in a CB, Punt returner, and kickoff returner.  With the fact that he wouldn't be your #1-3 guy at CB leaves so much less concern on putting him back to receive punts or kicks.  And being a CB I'd imagine he'd work on the coverage units there as well to boost ST there.

Credit here to watching a Lion fan mock 3 rounds with GB trading 22 and 59 to acquire 16 and early 3rd to take Jermaine Johnson.  Selecting George Pickens at 28.  TE Dulcich at 53.

It was here when 3rd round came around he drafted another a WR(no way with a TE do we go triple on receiving)  that the next pick was Jones and he commented about the Punt/KO return skills that will be coveted by teams.  Oh to round it off we got what seems to be everyone's later OT  Abraham Lucas.  Who just seems far too popular to be around where people draft him late 3rd or in the 4th rounds.  Since the guy is essentially on an island it seems for OL by the time mid to late 2nd round selections happen.  Like the well of OL dried up suddenly.

Serious question: How have I never heard of Michael Menet on the Packers? Was this an in-season PS addition? I used to be 'Mr. Practice Squad' obscure roster reference. Now, I'm just old and lazy. Your depth of knowledge reminds me of my younger days. I love to see it!

After doing some reading, I think Pickens is a guy we end up with at 28. Best case scenario is that a QB slides and a team trades up to 28 and we can get Pickens in the first part of round 2.

Ben Fennell back interviewing with Andy Herman on 'Pack a Day'

I always love what Ben Fennell has to say. He doesn't and won't put together draft guides, but he has access to the NFL Film database and can get any down and distance or contextualized play scenario at his fingertips unlike nearly all other analysts. A very good interview here - I highly recommend giving it a listen if you have the time.
