Packers 2022 NFL Draft Discussion

I feel like anything getting leaked at this point is getting leaked with a purpose.

When the Packers have traded up early in the draft, from what I remember there's been no rumors about it until you'd see the Packer helmet surprisingly show up in the 'on the clock' graphic right as they were announcing the trade.

Having 2 first rounders at the start of this draft is a different animal (particularly with 9 more picks in later rounds behind it), so I'm expecting an active first two nights from Gute - if he does trade up and make a move that reduces the 4 picks in the first two rounds I think it's going to be way up.  Otherwise it could be a bunch of deck chair shuffling with trades as other teams move in and out around them and they wind up with two-three mid to late 1st rounders between #18-32.

I wonder how many of the people with the knowledge of what's going to happen tonight have free time to "chat" with a news source to let them know anything.  It's not like the biggest 3 nights/day of their year won't take up 100% of their time for weeks before, let alone within 24 hours of the draft they have time to get those reliable leaks out. As you say, if there's a leak, it's for a purpose and part of business.

I could see them packaging their 3rd to move up from #22 to #17 and leapfrogging the Saints and Eagles.  At #17 I would bet a significant amount of money that at least one of Wilson, Olave, and London is still on the board.  If they do that, I could see them move down from #28 and see what edge rusher or DL falls to them early in the 2nd.

I don't see them coming out of the draft with less than four picks in the top two rounds.  They have a lot of depth they need to replace because of cap casualties, and will need a number of players ready to contribute significant snaps.

Olave has said that he has had lots of contact with the Packers.

I know someone who did some baseball related news stuff, and he'd be texting sources left and right during trade time and draft and stuff. Some people reply, some don't. Some of these people have really good relationships with coaches/admin people or whomever. It's rarely a 'xyz is going to happen' - but hints. And let's face it - some of the insider people love the attention. It's something they rarely get - so they play along. As I said, they rarely reveal anything straight up - but there's a little dance that goes on - enough to give someone a story and enough to make the source feel valuable.

Trey Wingo is reporting people on the ground believe there will be upwards to 750,000 or more people attending this draft. You can see why Green Bay was skipped over. That's a lot of people. He also said: there are rumors that Las Vegas will become an anchor city in the NFL Draft rotation. He's claiming they've done a wonderful job shutting down traffic etc.

Except when it comes to Raiders wide receivers.

I see what you're doing there. Man, that whole thing was just so sad. That poor woman gone. Ruggs life over. Just terrible terrible stuff.

People wonder why I love Tony Pauline? He called Trayvon Walker to Jax a month before anyone was even talking about it. He reported Lovie Smith was pounding the table for Dereck Stingley 2 weeks ago. The man is just connected having covered the draft for over 20 years. He is the best.

Ekwonu lasted until the 22nd pick in 1 of the sim drafts I had.  Of course I picked him for the Pack.

Man, some of those mocks leave you "Huh?!? Well, ummm, yeah I'm taking him!"
