David Green passes away

He was one of the primary players that the Brewers sent to the Cards along with Sixto Lezcano and and Larry Sorensen in the Rollie Fingers, Ted Simmons, Pete Vukovich deal passed away in Nicaragua on Sunday. One of the top MLB prospects in the early 1980’s David never quite lived up to his press clippings. He had a couple of good years in 83 and 84 with the Cards and then was part of a trade with the Giants that moved Will Clark to the Cards in the winter of 1984. An excellent athlete that was quick as lightning, but never hit well enough to truly make it in the bigs. One of the first Brewer minor leaguers of that era that didn’t live to their promise followed by Glenn Braggs and Billie Jo Robidoux.

I think you mean Jack Clark.

I remember David Green when he was coming up and thought he’d be pretty good if we traded him away for those three key players. It was my first real experience with a blockbuster trade by the Brewers. I kept tabs on Green and the others, expecting at least one of them to break out, but it never happened.

RIP

He actually died in St. Louis.

Had a .775 OPS and scored three runs against the Brewers in the 1982 World Series. He got his revenge for being traded away.
