Scouting upcoming opponents

I arrived before the 8:00 game and had the opprotunity to scout next week's opponent, Bay Street Bar, as well as Anna's.

 

I did a "measles chart", where I plotted the location of each ball put in play. From there, one can find patterns and align the defenders accordingly. I really want you guys to take a look and decide if it's worth going into discussion.

 

green = grounder, purple = liner, red = fly

 

The size of the dots are in proportion to the value of the hit, given what rluzinski posted elsewhere:

1B = 0.49 runs, 2B = 0.79 runs, 3B = 1.06 runs, HR = 1.42 runs

 

 

Bay Street

These guys had three lefties in the lineup, all the size of Barry Bonds. The one guy smoked two close to the tennis courts. I say all 4 OF play deep and conceed the dinks. I would also recommend putting the speedy guys in the OF to start the game.

 

 

Anna's

These guys pulled *every* ball. Nothing to the right side. Only five grounders. I say this team begs for the use a "rover". Their lead-off guy showed some pop, that was it.

Actually, that is a lot of help Jimbo. It's appreciated. I'm thinking that Bay Street is going to be tough, they have been in the league forever, and they've collected some good hitters. The team's scorekeeper (who does not seem to play) has a loud mouth. The whole team talks smak and I'd very much like to give them all they can handle, and a loss.

I'd suggest that we all look at the charts and come up with ideas on how to beat a power team that probably belongs in a power league, but they can't handle playing other teams like them so they just stay in social leagues.

It's a bunch of barflies with mullets. I was totally repulsed by their obnoxiousness from what I saw before their game. It's supposed to be a social league, and these guys were acting like it was game 7 of the world series.

It isn't? And here I wept openly in front of the wife all the way home.

 

 

I did see that team talk a lot and if you aren't used to it it might get under your skin a little.
