threads about multiple players

i should not have derailed a thread that was already complex by itself by commenting within that thread. this is the forum where i should have brought up my concerns. and so i shall. quotes are from this thread.

but before i dig into the weeds, i really appreciate the efforts made by moderators to keep threads on track, whether it be a nudge to steer things back to the original topic on hand, or editing a thread title or two when it's warranted. those efforts do not go unnoticed and are really appreciated.

dylan cozens and hoby milner thought they had it bad when there was single thread about two players.

Not quite sure what this even means.

Dahl and Sadzeck were already members of the organization on minor league deals, so it's not as if they were new signings.

If the Brewers suddenly announced an additional five non-roster invitees from their minor league pool, would each name require their own thread?

Regardless, very intrigued on what Dahl in particular will show in February / March spring training.

There will be spring training for non-40 man roster players if there's no new CBA, so even though they have received invites, one would think if big league spring training is delayed, the NRI's would still be allowed in camp.

viewtopic.php?f=63&t=40130 is the thread about dylan cozens and hoby milner. i feel that they should have each been introduced in separate threads to spur discussion about that single player and his comparisons.

in creating a thread with the lead about abraham almonte as a new signing, but the addendum about a more significant player in david dahl (and a less significant player in connor sadzeck), it's unclear whom to discuss.

from the way that thread went, david dahl is evidently the most significant of the three non-roster players, and unfortunately, that (thus far) has silenced any discussion on almonte and sadzeck. however, a thread already exists for david dahl: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=40939&hilit=dahl , and it makes sense to announce his invitation to spring training there, and continue discussion about him and his comparisons. i did something similar in the thread about mark mathias after his spring training invite was announced.

Luke Barker

Ethan Small

Frelick

Mitchell

Weimer

All of those come to mind...

typically, when the brewers announce non-roster invitees from their exisiting minor league pool, a single announcement is made. at that point, it makes sense to create a thread noting such. for example:

viewtopic.php?f=63&t=38043

viewtopic.php?f=63&t=40249

viewtopic.php?f=63&t=39559

in most cases, these players don't have an inside track to crack the opening day roster. thus, i completely agree it doesn't make sense to create a thread for each of them when invited. but mid-season, when such non-roster players finally do have their contracts selected, a new thread devoted to the promotion of that prospect is entirely warranted.

bottom line, i'd hate to see discussion about abraham almonte and connor sadzeck discouraged because yesterday's thread also introduces news on a buzz-worthy teammate. certainly appreciate any moderator moving the recent dahl discussion to the august thread about dahl, changing the thread title of yesterday's thread to focus solely on almonte, and introducing a new thread about sadzeck.

other forum members, what are your thoughts on this?

Of course, because there's been no discussion at all on individual threads on Jonathan Davis (zero responses), Jason Alexander (except Seinfeld references), and Trevor Kelley (zero responses).

But if one of them gets hot in spring training, or once one gets assigned back to minor league camp March 31st, our readers will be expected to look back on four-six pages of threads to find and resurrect the thread where there was a mention of his NRI.

Take a look at what the Milner thread became.

But you know what, since this is clearly important to you, I'll work on the editing during the overnight. Holiday season and all.

Thanks for tracking the 40-man roster thread, although we need to start a new one now that the lockout is in place.

Done.

By the way, the August Dahl thread was eight pages of threads deep to locate it, not surprising, August-to-December.

A reminder that like this trade, when the Brewers acquire two 40-man roster players or more in a single trade in the future, there won't be distinct threads on each.

Can you imagine if we had treated this trade under such rules?

thank you.

it was pretty easy to find the dahl thread with the search function.

and okay by me to lock the 40-man roster discussion thread. the timing is appropriate. happy to start a new one when the lockout ends.
