Reading this news, it does make you wonder how this issue wasn’t discovered by the Brewers.  Who knows, maybe they suggested a eye exam and he refused.  It just seems to me that a vision exam (not just a test but a full-on examination) would be just as important as a physical exam when signing a player or trading for one.

I wouldn't read too much into the article, seems like somebody's speculative piece to fill up space in the Globe.

To be sure, JBJ's numbers on the season are still terrible (.228/.277/.326).

He's been awful against lefties (.167/.231/.278) and is not given much playing time against LHP (39 PAs).

His slash line away from Fenway is also atrocious (.151/.210./.183)

He was bad at the plate in April (.458 OPS), decent in May (.737 OPS) and awful again so far in June (.569 OPS)

That he has glasses to correct astigmatism would have no causal link to his inability to hit lefties, on the road, nor explain why he has been bad two out of the three months this season.

By all forms of statistical analysis, JBJ is still terrible offensively even if he can now fly fighter jets with his improved vision.  Also took a look at Binelas' stats - as a polished collegiate bat he's OPS'ing mid .800s in high A....solid but not spectacular.  David Hamilton is OPS-ing mid 0.600's in AA as a 24 yr old.

All in all, very pleased to have Renfroe in Milwaukee as a result of this trade....very, very pleased.

I'm not quite ready to write off Binelas. However, that trade does not look like an absolute disaster.
