I certainly think he has earned another start and won't be a one and done back to the minors. With all of the relief pitchers they have added to the 40 man there shouldn't be an issue shuttling other guys back and forth to the back end of the bullpen.

Well, he definitely deserves another start. Hopefully that will get us through the Woodruff injury and they can see where to use him after that.

His "rough outing".  Counsell hung him out to dry.

Do I want to see Alexander on the team?  No, but Counsell has just been leaving guys in way too long lately/this season.

I agree that Counsell has been leaving in guys way too long when struggling specifically Hader in the game Friday night but once the Brewers were down big yesterday and the game was out of reach it was fine to let Alexander take one for the team. Personally I question Stearns even more for having guys like this and Chi Chi on the roster over Small who you would think has a future with this team.

Do you think they have/had Alexander and Chi Chi on the team because they like them better as people? Before questioning the GM, take a moment and try to find the reason why they have gone with Rodriguez, Alexander and others before Small.

Nobody can read the GM's mind, but perhaps it is Small's BB/9 ratio of 5.0 in AAA which suggests he may have major problems with walks in the big leagues. After all Small did walk 4 in the 2.2 big league innings he pitched earlier this year. In fact, Small is walking more batters per 9 in the minor leagues than Burnes, Woodruff, Lauer, Houser, Peralta, Ashby, Alexander, Suter did in the minor league careers. That's most likely why he is still in the minor leagues, they're not going to call up a pitcher to a contending team simply because he was a former first round pick and is in AAA.

Small may not be ready but Alexander is clearly not a major league pitcher and what they were doing claiming Chi Chi who has never shown anything is something I don't get. At least with a guy like Urena you could see some upside even though it didn't work out but Alexander and Chi Chi had no chance of sustained success.

Maybe not, but 3/5's of their starting rotation went down with injuries at some point during the first half of the season. No team has starting pitching depth that runs 7 or 8 deep.  They needed to get arms that could go multiple innings, they deemed Alexander and Chi Chi the best they could do when they needed them.

I've probably been more positive on Alexander than most as I always have been biased that a rotation should have some variety plus a groundball pitcher can be an asset when you have a very good defensive infield.  The problem is that the very good defense that the Brewers had last year seems to have evaporated and Alexander needed to be perfect with almost every pitch to avoid getting crushed.  I had no problem Counsell leaving him once it got to 9-1 because there is lottery odds that the Brewers would score 8 AND hold the Giants to 0.  Chi Chi? How many IP of replacement level performance before any other option is better?  It's called a Chi Chi.
