You could make a case for the catcher to have a chance at the ball, but Cobb didn’t have position to validly do so.

DBs need to start making plays on the ball. A pass like that should never come close to completed.

The issue is that you still have to be in a clear position to catch the ball. After Cobb bobbled it forward, he wasn’t.
